Renault 9 Auto light

Hello All,

Probably a well known problem. Have an old Renault 9 which was running fine. The yellow/ orange 'auto' light now regularly comes on and car goes into a limp mode.

Drives slow, struggles on any incline.

Oil level in gearbox not the problem, checked.

Any clues?
