2003 Renault scenic 1.4 non starter

I just got a Renault Scenic 1.4 16v as spates or repair, only paid £100 with mot til jan 2015. and was told by the lady that the timing belt had gone. I bought this for stairs. However when i lifted the bonnet the timing belt was in tact, so after towing it home I thought I'll put some jump leads on and try it as it's been stood around a few months.
All the pulleys are turning & i get a noise like the starter motor continually is just spinning, any ideas plz
