05 traffic reverse light problem

Hi all new to here i have a 05 renault traffic 6speed and noticed i had no reverse lights working so i checked all fuses all good so stuck in a new switch still wont work but if i leave the switch connected to the wiring plug and press it all works fine my question is do the gearboxs give trouble does the selector wear thats not hitting the switch thanks
