Problem starting my Megane-please help!

Hi,

I have a Renault Megane I 1.9dCi. This morning the car simply wouldn't start. Now, before I go into any great detail my knowledge of how cars work is very basic, so excuse my naivety.

So, this morning I attempted to start it as usual...with no problems with it since replacing the CAM belt (that may not be it's name, but is basically the belt that connects things like power steering).

Not sure whether this is normal, but when I turn the electrics on the car, but don't attempt to start the car, a buzzing sounds comes from what I believe is the starting motor. After a minute or two the buzzing stops, but I have mentioned this, as there is a small belt connected to it on the left hand side, which leads me to believe it should move...but I could be missing the point completely there.

Anyway, when I turn the ignition it doesn't start. The only lights that come up on the dashboard are the usual ones that light up when the car starts normally...battery light, handbrake light and the oil light....now the oil light usually turns off once car has started, but remains on now as car doesn't start.

After a few attempts, especially if prolonged, at starting the car, an orange light in the middle lights up which I am led to believe is the electronic fault light...but it doesn't appear on most attempts to start. I have attempted to research this part, with many possible reasons for this to appear.

This may be a very vague description, but does anyone have any ideas on where to start? I'm probably going to have to do the inevitable and take it to a garage, but this forum seems to have wonderful ways to fix things without their help and I'd prefer to learn these little tips so I can do it myself.

Obviously, any help provided I'd be eternally grateful.

Thanks
