My wife has a Megane Cabriolet 1.6 Dynamique with an automatic gearbox. It is a 51 plate with 118K on the speedo and she's owned it for a number of years.
Last year, at around 105K miles, we started seeing the auto light on the dash. This happened with increasing frequency, so we took it to a local auto gearbox specialist who said it needed completely replacing, so we bit the four figure quote and had it done because she really likes the car.
Since replacement, the auto light remains out, although the transmission was never as smooth as it used to be, and it has been back for a reset to the repaired a couple of time. Thirteen months on, it started to jerk when coming to a stop. On one occasion it was parked uphill for several days and initially would not engage forward drive until I revved it up. It went back to the gearbox specialists, who claimed that the problem was due to the front ABS sensors being dirty and charged us $100+ for cleaning them and resetting the gearbox (again).
The jerking stopped, but two weeks later it was back. The car is now back at the repairers and - three days on - they've not yet come back with a diagnosis. I have a suspicion that the problem is with the replacement gearbox, but have insufficient knowledge to argue the toss.
Can anyone suggest what the problem might be, and what needs to be done to resolve it? At it's current age, it's not worth throwing more money at it, but with a dodgy gearbox it isn't a saleable item either.
