Seanchi

Desperate for help.

My Renault Laguna type G 1.9 diesel 2005/6. 44000 KM about 26/30000M, developed a ticking noise like solonide or relay, when it's parked in my drive, which drains the battery. Also the automatic electronic hand break is malfunctioning.

To overcome the battery draining I switch off the handbrake, before removing the 'key'.

I have had it in to several Renault garages and every time, I get a different answer even though they use the computer. Initially I was told it was the computer part relating to the hand brake electronics that needed replacing. The foot break works perfectly, and when the handbrake sticks I push the foot break with the engine off and this usually unstick the HB.

Yesterday I was told it wasn't the HB, they had fixed that but it is the ABS, which will need to be replaced at a cost of 1.6k euro.

Driving home I noticed the ESP stays orange on the screen and the read out for tyre pressure is not shown, also I am unable to turn on or off the ESP button. After I parked the car at the supermarket with the HB on, it stuck when I started the car. But this morning it didn't. This behavior is not unusual.

If the problem wasn't the HB computer how do I know it is the ABS, and is ABS & ESP, one and the same thing. My MOT is due in May.
