I have a 1998/S Clio 1.2, 8v. I realise this car is fast becoming scrapyard fodder but to our family its brilliant. I am unemployed and having a car that is so cheap to run is a godsend.
It recently went straight through its MOT and its just been taxed and its surprisingly nice to drive. We also have a Toyota Estima which is an amazing family car, but with mpg in the mid 20's we found the Clio is used a lot more, at least it was until yesterday!
It developed a misfire on Saturday morning but as I was away all weekend I didnt get a chance to check it over. I naturally assumed it was going to be a faulty coil pack or maybe a crankshaft sensor and wasnt overly worried, but having replaced them it made no difference whatsoever. I then removed the injectors but could find no faults there either.
Then a took a deep breath and took the head off, BINGO, found a hole in No 1 piston. So thats a stuffed engine, Balls!!!
Im now pretty sure I will be replacing the engine as I'm not going to find another car for the £200 it will take me to replace it will I.
SO, has anyone got a 1.2, 8v engine sitting behind their sofa or on top of their wardrobe that they no longer need????
