Laguna II steering wheel control logic

Was messing around with the steering wheel controller trying to make sense of the wiring. I am hoping to convert signals into USB HID.

Looks like six wires from steering wheel controller enters back of display unit. From there five wires go through to stereo.

Now I think the setup is like a matrix (see attached diagram). When using multimeter I got continuity signal from the rotating wheel but not from the other buttons..

Does anybody know exactly what type of signal this is?

If the setup is like the matrix diagram and brown, red and black are always say 5 volts. Then reading yellow, green and blue should indicate button pressed. Only problem I see is that if all brown, red and black wires are infused with 5V simultaneously how can one tell if it is "volume" or "next" being pressed?

I have some experience with microcontrollers and would like to program one to convert these signals into USB... but need some help getting started..
