1.5 dci engine locking up

hi guys, I recently bought a 2002 megane 1.5dci that had a problem with the engine locking up, as car was in very good condition for year I thought worst it could be is bent valves, i was told that the fan belt snapped and must have knocked timing out, so i bought a new timing belt and crank/camshaft locking pins, followed instructions in manual on how to retime, after doing it all the engine still locked up, so cylinder head off, but all looks fine with the valves.

if it is bent valve, would it very noticeable when valves are removed from head

anyone one got any advice, thanks
