PCV valve replacement from different brand?

Hi

First of all, thank you very much from Denmark for this great forum, said from a silent and frequent reader when the old renault keep making problems ;)

Now to the problem, a month or two ago the 1.9 DCI Scenic II started to use oil, have excessive crankcase pressure and spat it around in the engineroom, but with no excessive amount of black smoke, so i used this forum to locate the problem, it was the PCV valve that caused the issue. I then cleaned the oil catch can and opened the PCV valve, when i opened it, i noticed the membrane was cracked and had clogged up the valve.

Not a pretty sight

I cleaned up the valve and together with the clean oil catch can, its all good now, and she's running sweet(except for the missing oil, which i think i have to look in the intercooler for)

But since is need the membrane in the PCV valve, i presume there isnt much "valve function" anymore, since the vacuum cant close the valve.

I tried to get a new PCV valve, but the cost from an unauthorized renault dealer is 75 pounds, which i simply wont pay when i only need the a spring and a f****** diaphragm!

I cant find a new cheaper anywhere, not even on ebay ;) so i have decided to buy one from a 1.8T VW which will cost me around 5-10 pounds.

It looks like it will fit and my reasoning for brand-trade lies in the simplicity of this PCV-valve-function og really cant see anything renault specific reason to buy it for a small fortune.

Any thoughts in using a much cheaper one from VW, whether its from the 1.9 tdi or 1.8T ?

  1. Hi,
How the VW valve works in your Renault? Could you get it to fit?

  2. I have made this conversion and with the help of a short length of hose pipe, it fits and works exceptionally well.
