I have a coolant leak in the '97 Megane coming from behind the exhaust manifold, so I presume it's the block plugs that have rusted out due to water usage in the past, or maybe the metal pipe connecting the water pump.
I remove the exhaust manifold and 2 of the studs unscrew with the nuts, (that sometimes happens) but coolant starts coming out of the stud holes! That doesn't seem normal... the bolt holes shouldn't be in contact with the head cooling system..? Is this normal on this head design?
The block plugs don't seem to be in bad shape and the source of the leak...
I searched google and couldn't find any thing conclusive. The probability of a crack in the head or gasket seems little, since the stud holes are on either side - see photo.
