won't start frustration!

have a '98 Clio Grande RN 1.2 that has me scratching my head, it drove perfectly after it's last service 3 months ago but last week suddenly went dead and wouldn't turn over when I tried to start, not even a click from under the bonnet.....AA was called and their chap diagnosed a faulty starter motor being the cause so a new one was purchased and being an easy swapover I installed it myself but still nothing doing when the ignition key is turned, I've checked the battery and that's ok the lights stay on etc, have tried jump leads but no joy, checked new starter out of the car and that's fine,

can anyone offer advice on what to do next?
