Trafic 2003 intermittent die on first start in the morning

Hi folks,

I have had a long wade through various threads and other forums but unfortunately can't seem to get to the bottom of this problem. I hoping someone might have a idea.

Problem

If the van is left for any period of time (say 3hr+) it will start no problem, rev fine, ticker fine but then stop approx. 20secs later - doesn't do this every time it's left but most. You then have to turn the ignition on/off 3 times to re-prime the fuel line to get it to start again. When you do this you can here the fuel circulate which to me suggest air has got in somehow. Once started it then runs perfect for the rest of the day. If you turn the ignition of/off 3 times before starting first thing it also starts and continues to run fine. The van has been into a garage (twice) and had the following checked changed:

1. Injector leak off test - don't know the results they say it was ok. Would also think that if it was an injector leaking/draining this would also cause initial starting problems/misfire first off.

2. Both send and return fuel lines have been pressure tested ok.

3. Fitted an additional no-return valve on the out-going diesel line (close to the tank_ to eliminate drain back.

4. Fuel filter (engine bay one) - changed

5. High pressure pump - OK

In addition to the garage I have:

1. Removed the tank and checked tank pump - OK

3. Crank sensor changed approx. 4000mile ago as it failed completely.

4. EGR valve - changed (was buggered)

5. MAF - changed approx. 2000mile ago as this was also causing dead spots in the acceleration.

It's obviously losing diesel somewhere (draining back), any thoughts on the next step.

Engine currently on 210'000mile

Many thanks

Darren
