Partical Filter (FAP) Problem

I have had my 55 plate Scenic for several years now and had many problems with it but all sorted except for the Partial Filter. It's been in and out of the local garage many times, analyzed countless, had some pipes replaced and a new particle filter a couple of months ago and I still get the light on the dash. It doesn't matter if I am driving fifteen minutes into town (all open road) or two hours on the M6 sat at 70MPH, on it comes and now there is a pronounced smell of vaporised diesel in the cab while the light is lit. Having done all this the local garage just throws their arms in the air and asks me what can they do?? Can anyone help please? I do a lot of milage a year, most motorway and the services are generally early while the milage is coming up 150.000
