A different "Limp" problem - Clio 1.2 16V

02 clio 1.2 16V. I have searched many similar threads but this does not match the common limp mode problems. University student grandaughter without 2 pennys to rub together so she can't risk main dealer prices so I am looking for clues.

The car currently starts OK but for the first 10 mins or so the revs need to be above about 3000 or it gives symptoms that I would call limp mode - utterly gutless. Subsequently it settles down (she tells me) to run more or less normally, all be it slightly roughly. No engine warning light.

These symptoms have started after the CAT was changed and MOT test - no advisories. The cat change was done by a one man & his dog garage. Regrettably she is about 100 miles from us and we are away next week so I can't do anything myself for her.

When she rang and described what sounded like limp mode I advised that the culprit was probably the post CAT Lambda sensor as that must have been worked on at the CAT change. The "garage" have now replaced that but don't have a clue where to go next. Their hand held scanner does not bring up any codes.

About 1500 miles/2years ago I replaced that same lambda sensor and cleaned out the throttle body, manifolds etc, carefully checked the well known cable problem at the ECU and packed the sides of that stupid metal cover to forstall future problems.

Any suggestions that I can offer to the one man & his dog or will grandad end up having to pay for at least a main dealer full code read ? !!!

Such a pity that she "didn't want to bother grandad" this year for pre MOT and the test.
