ABS Light - 1.2 Clio mk2 2005

I was wondering if any of you could help?

The ABS light on my mk2 clio is on permanently and ABS does not work.

This is not a problem with the abs rings, as I replaced these in the past year. Normally what would happen with snapped ABS rings, was that ABS would try and kick in, then the ABS light would come on and the car would drive normally, but without ABS.

This problem is not like that, as the ABS light is permanently on, and ABS makes no attempt to kick in.

The problem started when I went over a deep pot hole in a car park ages ago. Perhaps this has dislodged something to cause the problem?

I checked the ABS sensor cables for the front wheels and they are both attached ok. I thought maybe one of these could have become damaged or detached, but this is not the case.

Are there any cables etc at the rear which may also be the problem?

The fuse has been checked, so that is not the problem.

Let me know if you have any ideas as to what the problem may be, and how to sort it.
