Hi there!
This is my first post on the forum, so play nice!
For the record I drive a skoda - just like a VW when you get past the badge; really obvious where the screws and clips holding the trim is, not like this laguna!
I'm trying to fix my dad's 2002 '52 plate Laguna II phase I 1.9dCi expression. I don't know if the expression makes a difference to the trim panels.
The general problem is that the heater/blower unit works on setting 4, but not setting 1,2 or 3. I read some other posts about taking out the glovebox, looking for a circular access hatch, replacing a resistor or a diode.
Couldn't see any such thing except what transpired to be the bottom of the fan motor housing; there was nothing there but the motor. Thought that it must be on top and proceeded to try to get more of the dashboard off to access it better. Then I dropped a Phillips screwdriver bit into the 'abyss.' Then I dropped the Phillips screw. Which I'd like to get back and put back in place, if only to stop it from rattling.
So now the question is:
a) how do I get the whole dashboard off? It feels tantalisingly close but I can't see or feel anymore clips or screws. Does the grey upper with the airbag on the passenger side/instrument panel hood on driver side (RHD - UK model) separate from the cream coloured lower? does the glovebox surround separate from the rest of the cream lower (which is split into two sides)? and can I get the central unit out too while I'm here to fix the radio cover which hasn't worked for ages?
b) can I get the heater blower unit (standard 3 dial, no climate control, 2 stage AC button in temp dial) out to fiddle with that and check the contacts if PlanTheFirst doesn't work (the tricky-to-locate resistor/diode) and also to search for the parts that fell in this direction?
c)Where is the original resistor/diode that I'm meant to replace?! I read it was a 15 minute job and I've been here all day and am now working by floodlight!
Any help much appreciated, here's a pic of where I'm at now.
