How important is the right spark plug?

I apologise for the very basic question but I'm getting very confused
I'm replacing the ignition coils on my Renault megane classic 1.4l 16v (2001). I understand it is a good idea to replace the spark plugs at the same time as if the coils are broken the plugs may have been damaged. I can't find out where the right size is however. I found an online manual for my car but it says go to a Renault dealer and doesn't specify the plug size. There are no labels anywhere around the engine that state the right size either.
I have tried using the car type tool in an on-line shop such as here:

but the results only seem consistent in the thread size specified. the electrode gap varies from .7mm to 1mm in the results.
I have 2 questions:
what is the right gap for my car (or where is a resource I can find this out easily)
Is any plug that fits this specification fine to use - eg buy the cheapest? Or are more expensive plugs better in any way?
