MKIV brake pedal sinking after pads change.

Hi to all - I am new to using forums so forgive any faux pas.

I have been searching Google and Renault Forums for help with an Espace MKIV 1.9 DTI brake problem described similarly by quite a few others (including for other models too) but EXACTLY the same scenario as that by user 'Aiki' on 1st August 2009 under title heading "MkIV Espace Spongy Brakes. It was moderated by 'Madnoel10' but there was no final 'Eureka!' moment at the bottom of the thread.

At our group, The Richmond Fellowship, we maintain a small fleet of vehicles and none of us have come across such a problem before despite our experience and a time-served mechanic and member of staff.

As most suggested solutions, both open and closed threads, are essentially to comprehensively bleed the brakes we have repeatedly done this in all ways we can think of including power-bleeding.

The mysterious puffing sounds from the passenger side footwell (back of the brake servo) only occur when applying the brakes and pumping the brake pedal but not constantly.

With the engine off and servo pumped until exhausted the braked pedal is absolutely rock-hard and does not sink to the floor at all even over extended time.

During our bleeding activities (engine off) all has appeared normal with nothing out of place or unusual. We would be extremely grateful if you could assist with suggestions or prior knowledge or solutions which has kept us scratching our collective heads for most of this week now!

We really are extremely reluctant to entrust our beloved vehicle to the hands of the local Renault main dealer - experience has taught us dearly. Once bitten - Twice shy!

Paul Hiscock Mech. Workshop, Team Leader.
