My 2005 Scenic recently failed to start with the dreaded Electronic Fault message. Other messages included steering not locked, battery charging fault, oil pressure fault.
I checked the engine compartment fuse box, no corrosion and fuses all OK. I checked the positive terminal fuses, everything OK. The AA spent 2 hrs trying to fix, but basically just repeated my checks. They couldn't get diagnostic tool to connect as the ignition wouldn't come on. They suggested it was the steering lock ECU.
I removed steering lock all looked OK and when I put it on it would work intermittently. Took battery to a garage and that was fine.
In a last attempt I repeated fuse box check and when putting things together noticed a green patch on the small positive cable just above where it went in to the wiring harness (below air intake pipe where it connects to from grill. On closer inspection the cable was burnt through. Spliced cable back together and all OK :d
