Hi there.
I have a 51 plate 1.9D Kangoo van.
When I bought the van I was driving home and suddenly lost power. The van was jump started using jump leads and it ran fine.
On the way to work this morning the battery light stayed on when I started the van. I drove up the road and gave it a bit of welly in 2nd and the light went off.
On the way home today, the battery light has stayed on all the way home.
Ive just put a multimeter across the battery, set to DC 20. I got a reading of 0.24 which descended down to about 0.19. The van wasn't running.
I started the van and it rose to 0.25-0.27. So leaving the negative in the battery I put the positive onto the red on the alternator. Again, this read something like 0.28.
Im totally confused...
I checked the belt for the alternator and it could probably do with changing as it feels very brittle and is highly glossed on the top and visibly cracking.
Could anyone shed some light on any more checks I could do to narrow the problem down please.
The van starts fine although a bit bumpy before it gets going but never had any issues
Thanks in advance.
Duncan
