Hi,
I recently upgraded to a Laguna Mk3 1.5dCi (61 plate, Expression) after my faithful old Mk2 was written off following an accident. It has 135k miles on the clock and full Renault service history (though it's due for another in a few hundred miles).
I've noticed that on turning off it seems to make an odd noise, like a fan suddenly coming to a stop. The fan noise I can hear seems to come on when I start the car.
The other day as I was driving up the road I was greeted with a "Hazard: Engine Failure" warning and a spanner image on the screen. It was still there on restarting the car but soon changed to "check ESR" and showed a symbol in the corner (with up/down arrows) which my book says is to change up/down gears. I haven't otherwise had any issues with warning signs or the car making strange noises/smells or loss of power.
As I am still covered by warranty, I took it in today and they ran a diagnostic test. A few codes apparently came up, which were cleared, and the guy tested it for a while and he said everything seemed fine. I can still hear the fan noise but last time I turned it off, it didn't make the strange noise I'd been hearing before.
If it's of any relevance, the following are on the vehicle's maintenance history:
98666 miles - camshaft drive belt(s)/chain(s), cooling system drain and refill
102306 miles - cylinder head assy (one), cylinder head overhaul (one), oil filter element, cooling system - pressure test, expansion tank, injector leak off pipe
Might there still be an issue, or was it just a glitch? Could the fan noise just be the way the new engine works? (I'm still getting used to this one - I had my old 1.9dCi for the past 9 years) :o
