EspaceIV What is it?

Hi there. I have just discovered something dangling down the back of the engine of my Espace IV.

It is shaped like a dumpy letter T. It has a melted electric motor on it (must have been on the exhaust), and two tubes attached which appear to go somewhere at the back of the engine.



Has anyone any ides what it is? Could it be linked to the fact that when started from cold I have clouds of light blue grey smoke?
