Laguna Fuel Injection System Fault - Engine Revving

Hi All. I've done so much searching and reading about this that I'm getting confused.

My 2001 Laguna 1.8 petrol is on 125k miles of which I've done the last 85k. The engine has been trouble free during this time but without warning I had the "Fuel Injection System Fault" warning on the dash with the engine revving by itself anywhere from a consistent 2,500-3,000rpm wave to a climbing scream to 5,000rpm. The accelerator pedal does nothing.

No error codes appear through the port.

My mechanic tested for air leaks around the intake manifold, checked the ecu pins for corrosion and I changed the accelerator pedal without success.

The car has no hesitation and everything seems fine until the fault appears. If I pull up and turn off the engine and restart, the fault remains present with the revving. However, if I allow the car to cool down and then restart, everything is back to normal.

Obviously the car is unusable and through my reading it could be wiring continuity between the ecu and throttle body, dirty valve in the throttle body, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump or the ecu.

I had a problem with it occasionally cutting out last year but that was cured by spraying the throttle body with carb cleaner. There's absolutely no warning the fault is going to happen but the 3 times it's happened now have all occurred as soon as the car has warmed up (about 3 miles).

Any specific help is appreciated to keep an old Laguna on the road. Thanks.
