Grande Espace sometimes starts sometimes doesnt

Hi all first time here...I have searched on many threads but nothing really relates to my problem.



We have intermittent starting problems with our 2003 2.2 diesel auto. The wife did the school run in it the other morning...it started fine then got back in after school drop off and all lights came on but didn't turn over (its happened about 4 times now over the last few weeks). Someone connected jump leads and before they even started their car she tried it and it started...this happened at home the other day too...would not turn over after being sat there all night then attached the battery charger cables to the battery and it sparked slightly when connecting then cracked up when tried...even thought it had not even charged.

It has had a new battery last year, a new alternator this year...the only thing I can think of is if its the older looking battery connectors...I was told that when we had the alternator fitted the connectors are ok but not sure really.

If any of you have had this issue before or could hazard a guess before I spend lots of money sourcing the issue I would be grateful.
