Hello, I went to see a 2005 1.6 Scenic 2 today. 88k very tidy condition, FSH and it drove really well.
The only worry I had from it was a 1 or 2 secound rattle from the dephaser pulley when it was 1st started. Once the rattle went the engine ticked over as sweet as a nut and sounded very quiet. The chap selling it seemed genuine and said it had not been started for almost 2 weeks.
I have no experience of dephaser pulleys so I am asking whether there is ever an occaision when it might make a noise and it not be a problem? eg. when left for long periods without running. Or should it never make a noise and if it does it means it's on the way out.
I'm going to look at it again tomorrow so any quick answers would be great.
