Small remark, this is applicable in a LHD car. So when I say driver seat, I mean left seat and in the UK that would be passenger seat. At least, if Renault has their wire and fusebox orientation in the same position.
Introduction:
For those who have broken electronic parking brake actuators, errors, or find the noise annoying (me) and want to prevent it from actually failing over time (me), I now have the solution.
This is a rudimentary fix, where I have blocked power to the parking brake actuator as soon as you turn off ignition. This fools the system and DOES NOT give any errors. As the ignition is turned off, the car wants to activate the parking brake and sends a signal. This signal never reaches the actuator, since it has no power. The system displays in the LCD screen that the parking brake has been activated. Upon starting the car, it immediately shows 'parking brake deactivated'. In the meantime, it never actually does anything. And while driving, it still works should you need it. Succes.
Parts needed:
- some wire (3 metres, 2 cores)
- something to make electrical connections with, soldering iron, or AMP plugs/plier.
- 1 12 volt relay (5 pin) with these connections: http://www.texasindustrialelectric.c...ark_wiring.gif
- 1 fuse (25 or 30A) or fuse holder.
Skills needed:
minor electrical skills and a good mindset should get you there.
How to:
1. First, remove some panels in the car:
- remove drawer under driver seat (by pushing in the tabs with the drawer open)
- remove plastic cover in driver door sill bottom
- remove plastic cover which connects driver door sill bottom to dash
- remove gear stick (MT) or gear selector (AT) surrounding
2.You need to get the 12 volt (switched) from the 12volt power outlet in the center console. Solder/crimp/whatever your 2 wires to the + and - of this power outlet. Run the wire from there to the door sill bottom and then to the under-seat-area. You have to be creative about your route, but it's not that hard. (using that power source is a must, since other switched sources tend to still be switched until 20mins after your have shut the car down).
3. The relay is placed under the driver seat area. Remember what was + and - from step 2, and attach the + to pin 86 of the relay. Attach the - to pin 85 of the relay.
4. Under the driver seat is a tiny fusebox with a purple relay on top. The bottom left fuse is for the electronic parking brake. Remove this fuse. We are replacing this fuse with two wires going to the relay. Take two 20cm long wires and crimp/AMP small male connectors to both wires. Now put both forks next to each other in the tiny fuse box where the fuse was before.
5. You will need to put a fuse in one of these wires, to replace the fuse that was originally there. Maybe use something like this: http://ift.tt/1LsGhmn
6. Then, attach one of these wires to pin 30 of the relay, the other to pin 87.
7. Lay the fuse somewhere snugg under there, test if everything works as it should and remount all the plastic panels.
