Steering not locked but car works

Hi,

just wondering if anyone can help me. I have a 2008 megane 1.6 dyanamic.

i have seen loads of topics on the steering not locked issue, mine seems slightly different from the others on here.

now the car starts, drives etc... no problems, but when i turn off the engine and remove the card the display shows the steering not locked message, i have seen that people say that it can be the fuses, or more likely the steering lock is faulty, but the lock soulds like its trying to do its job.

now this may be the issue, i brought the car as a cat D, and the steering wheel on the car is just the standard one, it should have the one with the cruise control & speed limiter buttons.

a friend of mine (fellow megane owner) suggests that this is the issue as the correct steering wheel would plug in and rid the issue.

car is nearing its MOT i'm lead to below steering not messages are now a fail.

any help would be very much appreciated.
