Megane Mark 2 Handbrake Lever

Hi. I have recently purchased a 2007 plate Renault Megane Mark 2 and soon became aware of the issue with the faulty button on the handbrake (i.e. the button on the handrake lever / throttle has broken off, feels loose and has fallen out).

I have read previous posts from other owners with the same problem but nothing more recent than 2012? I have spoken at length to Renault UK Customer Service Manager at their head office in Herts but he failed to fully acknowledge the issue. He claimed he had never heard of a similar incident in 6+ years of working at Renault (although a number of people at my local Renault dealer had) and that reluctantly he would not be able to contribute to the £391.20 it would cost to replace the unit.

I was wondering if any fellow Megane 2 owners had suffered the same problem and if they had managed to gain an acknowledgement and a contribution to cost from Renault UK? I would be very interested to know the age and mileage of the vehicles affected. Thanks.
