renault trafic air filter

Finally got the top off my 1987 trafics air filter unit it was full of water, any sugestions as to drain plug etc.? It will be handy if I can now get the bottom bit loose too as it means I can refit the hot and cold air intakes without the bulk of the body in my way, again if anyone know if its possible?. The engines running erratic without filter like 3m rpm lol
