clutch pedal sensor

hi I know this old man up the road has the spanner up on the dash. The way he has explained the problem is he can't start the car now with foot on the clutch only the brake so I know one of his sensors has gone but before I jump in I need to know will that bring up the spanner its a 2004 1.6 cheers
