That means dropping the fronts from 33 to 27 and the rears from 29 to 23 PSI. The fronts bulge noticeably more but the ride over Cambridge's notorious speed bumps and badly-patched repairs is markedly softer. I would only drive up to 40 MPH at these pressures but they suit my day-to-day driving. I would obviously raise them to normal for high-speed driving.
There is very little online about the lowest safe tyre-pressure limits for ride comfort. One American site mentioned 'no more than 10% less than recommended' but was probably referring to all-speed use. Hence my current trial at -20%. I am prepared to accept some uneven tyre wear in return for a pleasant ride. Am I tempting fate or likely to experience problems? Thanks.
P.S. I know the MoT test does not check tyre pressures but could they affect the braking tests or fail me in some other respect?
