Scenic phase II 2001 dead

Hi everyone,

My neighbour has a 2001 Scenic phase II and 6 weeks ago she could'nt turn the key in the ignition. So she purchased a replacement ignition off an large auction site instead of buying a replacement from renault (due to cost)

so asked me to have a look at it. So got her replacement ignition and noticed straight away it was just an old plastic key no fob for the immobiliser so fitted the new ignition and turn key to the one postion and the immobiliser light was doing a merry little dance and proceed to try and start the car (knowing it would'nt start) but nothing happened never turned over,no clicks nothing.

So next step was to get the immobiliser off so a wee bit of tape and the turned the key and the immobiliser light went out. So proceeded to try and start it again but still nothing. So i put the headlights on and turned the key and they stayed bright so put multimeter on the battery and got 12.01 volts so removed the battery to charge it up. After it was charged fitted back into the car and still nothing. The only thing that happens is when you turn the key to start the car all that happens is the digital clock goes off until you release the key everything else works fine in the car, cl, lights, fuel pump.

During this six weeks off sitting she left the sunroof open and we had some cracking rain so maybe a sensor. but would this stop the car from turning over? I had a shogun do this awhile back and it simply turned out to be the starter relay that had got soaked. But for I start doing anything to it I thought i'd ask you guys to see if you's had any ideas of possible problems?
