Air pipe

My renault grand scenic 2005 engine sounds noisy, had exhaust checked , that is all ok, have been told the pipe that runs to the air box is missing!!!! Apparently it runs under the battery from the radiator to the air box. My question is this easy for a layman or in this case a laywoman to fix???
