My Espace has been very reliable but suddenly wont select P or N.
It physically does go into those gears but the dash doesn't corroborate so you go into P (the pin engages as it should) but the dash says R. Soon as you take foot of the brake it goes into Limp mode.
Same with N (limp mode if you touch throttle)
Drives perfectly through all the gears and if you switch the car off in P and re start, the display shows P as it should. Just wont let you select P or N again unless you turn off and re start.
I'm thinking (hoping) perhaps a s/h gearbox ECU might cure it? The cable is attached at the gearbox end, havent got it up on the ramp yet to check the shifter but can you actually see anything of the shifter linkages from underneath?
Should add I've just replaced the gearbox stabiliser/lower engine mount...the old one was an MOT advisory so pretty knackered, thought that could have buggered up the shifter cable somewhere?
