Hello and useful info

Hi there,

I'm new to this forum and joined to give a little bit of information after dealing with Renault customer services.

I was p@!$$ed off with things breaking on my Grand Scenic, great car, comfy, loads of room even enough room for a pushchair in the boot with all 7 seats up however, things just kept going wrong.

I've been to this forum before trying to obtain answers, but found the suggested repair prices too much for me to stomach.

For example, number 4 setting on the heater stopped working, it looked like it would cost between £300-£400, I just thought I could live without number 4, the offside rear window wound itself down and never worked again, I just disconnected the switch and forced the window back up and wedged a bit of wood under the window to stop it falling down as I didn't want to shell out another £300-£400.

The auto handbrake stopped disengaging and I received a handbrake fault and then, recently I received a 'check injection' message.

This was the last straw I thought, so I decided to buy a Land rover and sell the Scenic, problem was I couldn't really sell it with all these issues so I rang Renault on the off chance there might be a product recall to try and keep costs down.

The Renault rep I spoke to was very understanding and booked the car into a dealer to get looked at, I've never taken a car into a dealer as I was always led to believe the repair costs were extortionate.

I was pleasantly surprised when Renault agreed to pay 76% of the cost of repairing the window and 90% of the cost of repairing the heater! So the work that was carried out was:

Diagnostic test

Replace heater plugs

fix handbrake error

replace window regulator

replace heater resistor pack

The cost to me was £325 !!!

Now I am not the most knowledgeable when it comes to cars but I do know that this was a cracking price, Renault totally redeemed themselves and even followed up with a call to check I was satisfied.

So before you look at trying to get the work done on the cheap, it might be worthwhile ringing Renault to see if they can help.

I believe Renault will charge you around £50 to fix the heater and £120-£130 to fix the window regulator problem due to their contribution as there has been a [sic] "small number of complaints from Renault customers"
