Turbo CHRA DIY replacement

Well, it's happened!

Yesterday driving home I saw a big tail of blue smoke pouring out of my laguna mkii 2005 1.9dci.

It was like a red arrow display except less fun.

So I asked a garagehead friend and he said it was most likely the bearing seals on the turbo had failed, letting oil into the turbo. Made sense.

Asked how long it would get by and he thought a little while.

It was a little while too, about ten minutes on my way home from work, high pitched whizzing noise, obvious contact sound. Intermittent power, blooms of smoke.

I nursed it home at around 1300 rpm avoiding the higher torque praying it would make it. About 100 yards from home and it's rattling badly.

I kept listen and didn't hear anything breaking up or rattling loose so I am hoping its contained to the turbo and hasn't smashed and spread through the engine system.

So now to the tough bit, I can't get to work, I can't afford £350 for a "new" Garrett from ebay and even if I could i don't trust that it's not cheap chinese fake.

My only option is to try a local supply CHRA cartridge.

Ive watched a few videos and they look suitable, after the turbine housings should be fine so no need to replace.

So to get to my question (s)

Has anyone done one themselves before?

Are there any guides on the site?

Any warnings?

Any other advice that would help?

One final things, the Garrett sites lists my model as the 1476V while everywhere else States that it's the 1479V.

They are genuinly different models although how different im not sure.

My lagune is a 55 plate but was most likely built in late 2004 or early 2005, so would be the 1476V I think?

I will check this with the supplier but any advice again is welcomed

Thanks guys, I look forward to all the help im praying you can give :)
