I believe I know what the next course of action is to resolve this issue, but would like the opinion of the members here before spending more money.
Symptoms are:
On a cold start, idles for approx 10 seconds before dying, this is repeatable and won't run correctly unless held at 1500 rpm for a while until it has warmed up.
Battery goes flat overnight if left after cold start stall.
When warm has a tendency to die when dropping to idle speed and refuses to start again. Not sure if this is actually happening now as reluctant to take it for a run in normal configuration,
No fault codes show and the following has been changed or done.
Crank sensor (new blue modified version)
Coolant temp sensor
inlet air temp sensor
plugs changed (old very sooty - running rich)
Throttle body cleaned
MAP sensor
cam position sensor
My thoughts were a mixture problem hence changing all the sensors.
Issue still remains after everything changed.
However, as a test disconnected the vvt dephaser solenoid. Apart from the service light and check injector indication. Starts from cold without dying and runs fine on a 20 mile drive, although obviously a little down on power as the vvt is deactivated.
So question. Is this likely to be just the solenoid which is suspect and I can replace myself or the dephaser pulley which needs replacing.
The cam belt was replaced when we purchased the car a couple of years ago, but clearly if the pulley is replaced, the belt needs changing as well.
Have I come to the correct diagnosis? Anything else it could be?
Thanks for reading!
