Engine failure Renault Clio 59Reg, 1.9dci turbo

Hi

We had our 59reg Renault Clio serviced by an independent garage. A week later my wife was driving the car & it started to make horrible mechanical noises. It was taken back to the garage that did the service & they couldn't decide what was wrong so it was towed to Renault main dealer & they informed us that the garage had used the wrong oil & it had wrecked the engine. the oil used was 5W-30 instead of 5W-40. Can this cause major engine failure? We've tried to get another garage to do a report on the engine as to what has gone wrong, but no-one wants to get involved!

Dealer has advised us we need a new engine & turbo & have told us it'll cost £5K. Engine is a 1.9dci diesel turbo. Would appreciate any advice, thanks.
