Hello, i hope you can help me out with my renault megane 1.6 atm gearbox year 1996. The problem started when i realised that the battery is emty and bought a new one and one day later it was empty as well. I allready tryd to see does the generator works and charges the battery and it did, and now i have no idea what is the problem.. last time i was driving and in one moment it gave me the car brain icon on the dashboard and the motor died on me.. when i recharged the battery was everything back to normal untill the battery died again amd the same thing happend again. Maybe somebody can help me please.. i like this car tooo much

Have a 55 reg Laguna 1.9, radio volume is stuck, cannot chage the volume on the radio or steering wheel, do I need to dis-connect the battery to reset the radio for it to work again.

1.9dci blowing all oil out of engine.
Hi all this heap is one step closer to getting scrapped, it's one thing after another with it.
I'd noticed a strong smell of fumes the past week, so 3 days ago I checked it and the engine was covered in oil due to the breather pipe being unmatched from the dipstick tube. I put it back on with a new jubilee clip, cleaned the engine down and thought all was well.
Today I've just done a 60 mile round trip and smelt the smell again. When I got to my destination ( the polar express)
I checked again and the pipe was still on but again all of engine was covered in oil. Drove carefully home and going round a roundabout the oil light come on. I've also noticed the back of the car has oil on it, presumably coming from the exhaust?
Is there anything that would likely cause this like blocked breathers etc?

I have problems with my engine and needed the head removed, i rebuilt it earlier but one connector alludes me as to where it fits. it was dark but the time i got to this part.
It is a blue connector and the next connector is for the crankshaft sensor,
It is for a clio 1.2 16v 2003 model, D4F 712.
Here is a link to a harness the connector is at the top, middle of the loom

Laguna 1999 - heated seats not working
Hi all!
I just bought a 1999 Laguna Estate and it's very comfortable driving, and so far I'm happy with it.
However, there are some few issues with it, among them the thing with the heated seats.
I've searched the forum and I see that this is a common issue, however, I didn't find any solutions for this model.
I've ordered a Hayes manual and hopefully there will be more info there.
Maybe anyone here know how to solve this on this 1999 model?

faulty keys
Hi everyone i'm Alexia. I have 53 reg scenic. I am having a problem with my key cards. All of a sudden both keys won't open or close the car and the vehicle is not sensing the key to start, so i have to leave the car unlocked and insert the key into the dash to get it to start.
I asked my local dealer and he said both keys are faulty and need to be replaced by new ones and reprogrammed. It will cost me around 400.
Has someone had a similar problem, and is there a cheaper solution ? I would hate to spend that money and find out that it is the receiver in the car that is at fault.

Hi all just bought a T1100 D 1991 Decided to swap cam belt ..got a kit [right 1 I hope] got cam cover off but gone nofurther yet..The new kit has the idler bearing with a short shaft sticking out of the back I presume this is located in the casting that carries the inj. pump ..Can anyone tell me how it is secured ?a pinch bolt? press fit???

Clio 172 fuel pump wiring.
Hi, my fuel pump won't prime, it doesn't get 12V on the + wire, but the fuse and the relay in the engine bay has 12V so there every thing is OK, I think some where beetwin the fuse and the right connector the wire is broken.

Having just watched this weeks caravan finder on sky 192 I have decided to go Touring Caravan so Snowball is now for sale as an un finished project, by un finished the interior needs cussion covers, and the plywood lining carpeted, van itself needs a new front exhaust pipe or the one thats on it welded at the manifold, some work on the rear 1/4 offside, one new rear lens, The lights work ok but might not pass mot with cracks in the lens (appox £30 on ebay) paintwork tidying up and a laquer coat applied.

CD player not working
Hi, the other day i switched my CD player off in my 03 plate megane (not standard CD player) and now it wont come back on, I took the CD player face off and the little red light was still flashing so obviously there is still power running to the CD player, i also tried another CD player and it never switched on, I don't know if this is connected but my dash clock now only comes on when I put my headlights on, plus the rear window heater stopped working around the same time, all these things are located around the central dash so could there possibly be a fuse needing changed? Also I have no experience of changing fuses so if anyone has the time to write out instructions of which fuse and where it is located would be great. Cheers

Dash issue
Hi My dash on my 55 plate scenic has started "playing up" The clock resets itself to 0:00 and I'm getting random whole dash lights etc coming on for few seconds then back to normal,but clock resets and all trip info resets to zero. Is this a dreaded dash fault or should I start looking for a different cause/fault as I can't find on the net what the dash fault symptoms are (currently 79k)?

Megane 3 Parking Brake Message
Was driving today and after moving off from a set of traffic lights i got a message flashing and beeping on my megane 3 manual, saying parking brake on. Stopped and check the hand brake but it was down, drove off with a bit of high rev and message disappeared.

I have a 7887 renault alarm and today it's just started to keep going off. Tried all the doors and all the windows but still happens. If you disconnect the battery apart from the radio code will it cause or lose anything?

I have read quite a few posts on this site (helpful, interesting and/or scary) since almost compulsively paying £500 for an '01 Scenic Expression dTi - priced because the driver's window doesn't move (regulator motor whirrs), boot lock button missing, heater not working and heater plug warning light on. There are some other little issues. Drives nicely, though, and gets me to work.
I'm sure I'll need help at some point and looking forward to posting successes.

Carminat GPS on Renault Espace 2005

I am new on this forum. I just bought a used renault grand espace 2005 model, with a Carminat GPS system. The maps cd says 2004, which means the maps are very outdated. I am wondering how do I update these maps? Is there a place where you can download updated maps for free as a Renault owner? I tried looking at the Renault website but couldn't find anything. Maps from 2004 are kind of useless, I recon I have to get a new cd with new maps. But from where?

I have an 08 Renault Master DCi Panel Van.
Quickshift 6 gearbox.
Sometimes sticks in reverse so turn off ignition and on again to cure for a while but no use like this.
Also gets stuck in forward gears.
I don't know enough about new computerised systems but am an old qualified mechanic so know my way around vehicles.
On reading some other posts etc, on the web, I see this is a familiar problem with Renault but it seems to be a variety of different reasons to cure.
Any help on where I should start looking.
I expect to have to remove the gearbox as any fix will no doubt be behind a bell housing or electronics hidden with-in and only got to by removal of the gear-box.
Can i do it at home or is it only a dealer fix which is going to kill my pocket.

Master fuel pressure issue
Hi. Wondering If anyone has seen this fault. 2007 Renault master van. 2.5 G9U 750 engine. DF053 or P0089 positive loop variation 3 def. I can not fix this somewhat simple fault! Any RTEs come across problems too?

Yet another problem..
Car was serviced not long ago, just after I purchased it. Had a misfire then but that was due to the plugs being knackered, purchased coil pack but wasn't needed. Also the car had been neglected in terms of regular servicing so had a load of sludge at the neck of the oil cap. Now I've got a misfire again & mayo on the cap, I know that short drives can cause the mayo due to condensation etc. No water loss or that, could this just be condensation? The cars done around 200 miles since the service. Thanks in advance, pics below.

2010 Grand Scenic. Rear Fog Lights not working.
The rear fog lights have stopped working on my 2010 Grand Scenic. The orange light on the dash no longer comes on either. Where is the fuse (its not listed in the manual) and where is the relay? Thank you in advance.
Clio offside driveshaft replacement
My dads got a 2002 clio 1.2 16v and the drivers side driveshaft has failed. Hes got a new shaft. Question is. Does the driveshaft just pull out or does it have a pin or clip?

Megane II loud noise from heater blower
I have just purchased a Megane II and I absolutely love it, however there is 2 faults with the car with one of them being a loud noise coming from what I believe to be the heater motor.

Megane 1.5,CDI, 2005, hot start problem air inlet temp sensor query
Hi there, I took the car to a garage who did a scan for a fault reading and he said that the the air inlet temp reading was -40 (minus 40).
When I looked into the Haynes manual Index for the the air inlet temp sensor, they're only listing a one for the petrol version.
Has the diesel 1.5 cdi deffo got one and if so can anyone give me an idea of its location ?
I have previously fitted a new crankshaft TDC sensor but still we have the hot start prob.

Hello from a new forum member. Bought a 1997 Laguna 1 about 5 years ago for £400 named smelly with 95k on the clock. She's now done £150k and still going strong! That's what I call value motoring. Still handles better than my 2013 BMW 335i F30 but acceleration not quite as good!

Hi, just purchased a 2012 Twingo Dynamic 1.2.
It has electrically adjustable wing mirrors but they don't appear to be heated. I've switched the rear screen heater on which heated mirrors are coupled to but nothing doing.
Now, does anyone know if I buy replacement glass with heating elements would the wiring be in place to connect to.

ESP/Traction Control Indicator Light Comes On

I have a Scenic 1.9dCi, 2002.
About a month ago, the ESP/Traction Control light came on and stayed on. It now does this every journey, but only kicks in after about 20 minutes. If I stop and then restart (the engine warm) it comes on immediately and stays on.
I don't have any other problems at the moment, says he touching wood!
Can anyone offer any advice/suggestions, please?

Trafic Oil Pressure Fault
Hi. I have a 2010 trafic with 36000 on the clock. I have had it serviced a couple of weeks ago and then this week the oil pressure fault warning message has come on and all other warning lights. The garage can't find anything wrong and have re done the oil, oil filter and pressure switch. This hasn't cured it and they have no idea now. My next option is the renault dealer. Before i go. Where is my Cabin Filter (Grand Scenic 111 2010)
Ok so I thought I would do the four year service myself after being quoted £600+ by my friendly local Renault garage.
Engine Air filter and Engine Oil filter done with the help of some youtube videos.
BUT I am buggered if I can find the Cabin Air filter. First I pullled the glove box off as indicated in the instructions accompanying the filter. Couldnt find it. So as the instructions were for a LH dive I thought maybe it was under the steering wheel so I pulled all that side apart. Nope. Then I thought maybe you access it from the engine bay like the series 11 so pulled that apart another fail.
Where the hell is it?

Fuel Injection Weak Mixture

My beloved Vauxhall Astra 1.4i (1993) is running very lumpy across the rev range.:(
I pulled out the spark plugs today - No 1 wet with fuel - Nos 2 & 3 very dry and white (too lean) - No 4 more normal but still on the lean side.
I've had a look in the Haynes manual but there is no 'Fault Section' for fuel injection :mad:
The engine starts first turn as always, idles quite steady at 1000rpm, will rev normally, temperature is normal .... but power is down going uphill (have to drop an extra gear). The engine sounds rough and feels lumpy (like the ignition timing is out) all the time but is still driveable. I've checked the exhaust system again and it seems ok (downpipe & cat) (recently had centre & end boxes replaced).
Can anyone please point me in the direction of the likely cause of the weak mixture?

Clio 2004 mk2 rf Central locking not working
Hi everyone,
I have a Clio 2004 1.6 16v initiale. Both keys that I have are working correctly and have been tested at a garage for their rf capabilities but the car is still not unlocking/locking.
I have to press the central locking on the centre console with only the passenger door left open and then lock the passenger door manually!
Does anybody have a solution for this problem to get it working again? I have looked at countless threads on forums and many describe the resynchronising sequence that does not work on my car (holding down the locking button does nothing).
Do I need to reprogram the key to the ECU or does the ECU need replacing?? Or what is needed?
I don't really understand this so as much detail as possible would be much appreciated.

megane 3 1.5 deisel heater not working
Hi, ive had water ingress through to passenger foot well. ive cleaned out drain holes and now that problem is fixed.
Now heater blowers are not working on any setting (climate control is on and and can adjust).
I was advised by a mate of a mate on how to test heater resistor (bridge/earth it on nearest bolt, if fans kick in it needs replacing).
this was the case, fans worked when earthed/bridged so ordered new resistor. After fitting new one it did not work but did when earthed/bridged.
Have i missed anything or done something wrong or is there another problem i should be looking for??

Firstly I have searched without sufficient result but I'm looking to locate the engine number on a 2006 scenic 1.5 DCI.
I've read that it maybe below the dip stick, under the cam belt cover or above the tdc sensor on the engine block....
I can't find it below dip stick or above tdc sensor. Don't have the capability to go digging around cam belt.

scenic 3 radio malfunction
I have a 2010 grand scenic and today when connecting my phone to the bluetooth the radio interface froze... when I switched the radio off it shut down but the satnav screen stayed active. Now the radio wont turn back on and so the satnav is stuck on

Hi all,
I have been advised that my turbo is on its way out on my kangoo 1.5Dci70. If i'm going to be replacing it soon I thought I might aswell make it bigger if possible because its not the fastest thing in the world. Does anyone know if their are any better tubo's that fit? maybe off a different kangoo or a clio maybe? Or i've seen some cartridges on ebay would it be possible to just replace the cartridge?

Renault Kangoo 2005 - Delay starting sometimes
The car is running very well. But sometimes after a couple of miles i stopped, then when back into the car after maybe 30 minutes or one hour, the car doesn't start, I have to maybe wait for another 30 minutes, then it starts. This is happening more frequently now. an someone tell WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM....

Dear forum. I am a newbie here and have an unusual problem. I have had a number of cars but never had a problem like this.
The make is a Nissan Kubistar 2006 DCI70 model, which I believe is identical to the Kangoo in most respects.
The problem is that when I turn the ignition key, there is no reaction to the starter engine, and I get multiple failures on the dashboard, indicating that all - or nearly all - function does not work.
Intermittently, the warning lights for each function will flash or and off. I roll started the car and after trying for a few minutes driving, the dashboard electronics went crazy like described.
Does anyone recognize this problem? If so, I be very pleased for some tips.

Most of the time the box will be water damaged and either a live circuit or earth will be discontinued to the starter relay. By taking a small electric wire, attaching it to the body then running it along the bottom side of the box while the car in s on, will trigger the car to start immediately.

Hi All,
Just have a quick question. It was raining heavily yesterday and i noticed a small pool of water in the rear passenger footwell. Is it possible to stop the roof half way open so i can clean the drainage pipes on each side. With the ignition on obviously i dared not make that mistake. I seen there is 2 reservoirs each side to collect water from the seals. Dont want to stop it half way and have to use the manual operation.
Its a MK1 02 plate cabrio.

Can anyone tell me why I have so much condensation in my new Megane Coupe. I had it in my previous '09 model and was hoping it was a one off. I had never had this problem with any previous Ford model. I know it clears with air con, but seems to be a lot of condensation in this model.

So I think I'll treat it to a few upgrades.
Can I fit newer headlights from a 2006, they look exactly the same shape, same for the rear tail lights?

Megane 1.6L 8v Auto 1999 - Auto fault info required

My first post asking for help.
As in the title, I am working on an elderly couples Renault Megane 1.6L 8v Auto 1999.
It had been standing for 2 years and when they decided to start using it again, it wouldn't start. So, it was brought around for me to work my magic on it for as little money as possible given the value of the car !!
The main problems were corrosion of the maxi fuse box in the plenum chamber and the I/R key fob plipper not working the central locking to switch off the immobilizer. Anyway, these were all made good and the car taken for an MOT - passed.
However, there is a symbol illuminated on the dash (yellow box with a zigzag pattern inside) Which I do believe is a dual function MIL for engine and transmission. Yet, there is no faults in either ECU.
The car drives well apart from the fact it only has one forward gear (3rd - limp ??)
My diagnostics didn't auto detect the auto gearbox ECU, but of the 4 options, it only communicated with the one (BVA A 4.2 Automatic Gearbox)
Looking in live data it is showing the gear shift selected and it confirms R for Reverse and 0 when placed in Park or Neutral but as soon as D is selected it shows 3HR even if 1, 2, or 3 is selected. It doesn't even attempt to go through the gears just the 3HR.
Another observation in live data is that there is no alteration to the sequence solenoid valves (EVS) - not active
The elderly couple who own the car can't even remember what day of the week it is So, it's not surprising that they can't remember if it was like this before it was parked up !!
Now I acknowledge my ignorance to automatic gearboxes and their workings and have exhausted my limited options and there is only so much staring and head scratching that can be done without a game plan.
Is there anyone out there in Renault land with some working knowledge of these gearboxes who is willing to hold my hand to find out if it is a gearbox failure or perhaps more problems with corroded wiring.

Scenic II rear bumper removal.
Hello all,
After what seems hours of searching here, YouTube and Google, I'm afraid I have to post this question.
How do you remove the rear bumper?
I undid the four screws along the tailgate, plus the four below.
Removed the rear lights to undo the black plastic heads.
Removed the tailgate locators to take out the torx screws.
But cannot fathom out how to get or find the screws behind the rear wheels?
I don't want to force the mud wells in case I break them.
The reason I want the bumper off is so I can fix the water leak into the boot. After plenty of drying, then talc I found the source of the water entry.
It's from the right hand side of the car, not the tow hitch, or vents, but the join in the corner, water seeps through it.

Changing Door Speakers
Hi All,
Only had my car a week now and it seems the speaker on the dash has gone. Makes a crackling noise on anything over 16 on the volume. Its my first ever car so im not savvy at all with cars, although im not stupid and i know how to use a screwdriver.
My car is an 02 plate Megane cabriolet soft top 2.0ltr. What would i need to replace the door speakers and the 2 speakers on the dash and does anyone know exact speaker sizes. I was told they are 6.5 in the door.
Also what would i need to replace the radio head unit? At the moment i have a tapedeck with 6 cd changer in the boot with steering remote.

Espace Windows keep failing
I have only had my Espace for 9 months and in that time three window mechanisms have failed - on three diffferent windows. The first was on the front passenger door, then a rear passenger door and now the other prear passenger door - this time the car was parked but the next day the window had dropped - Renault have quoted another 350euros for a new mechanism. The car is 2008 but has only done 23,000 miles since new so why does this keep happening? - Is it common problem? And is there anything I can do about it apart from keep spending out? Now I am waiting in trepidation for the last one to fail as well!!!!

Renault has declared its manual and automatic gearboxes to be 'maintenance-free' for some years now, although the manuals, at least, still have drain and fill holes to DIY.
This strikes me as being risky because oil degrades and can leak over time. Changing the gearbox oil can smooth-out clunky changes, as some threads on this site confirm. What would members consider to be a reasonable interval to change gearbox oil, in years and miles?

Megane 2 whirring noise!

It's been a while since I was last on the forum (thankfully), but lately the whirring noise I'm getting is getting louder to the point of distraction. At first I thought it was just the way a coupe sounded, daft I know but hey ho. It gets louder as I speed up and cuts out when I engage the clutch. Can anyone help?? :confused:

Coolant Query Clio 1.2 8V

Does anyone know if its okay to use the long life OAT coolant in a Year 2000 Renault Clio with a 1.2 8V engine.
Can't find any information on the Internet if I can use this or if I should use the older type of Coolant.

Beeping, fault code??
1989 Renault Master 2.5. Any Clues as to the beeping that has suddenly started. 9 single beeps followed by 7 double beeps. If it wasn't consistent in its repetitiveness I wouldn't be too bothered but its chirping in every 15 minutes or so and always the same sequence.

We have a Clio 02 plate which has done 71k it's a 1.4 16v Dynamique. Here's the list of issues, we have experienced.
1. The rev counter revs for a few secs and then dies!
2. The temp gauge warms up and then dies!
3. The immobiliser lite comes on when engine is running, when it does the indicators and elec windows refuse to work, but the engine still runs.
What have I tried so far:-
1. Checked the relays all work.
2. I have checked all fuses and cleaned out the fuse box.
3. Wiggle checked connectors.
4. Battery negative tried another earth from battery to engine lifting eye.
5. Cleaned the sensor on the fly wheel, TDC.

Megane (10) 1.5 dCi Auto Sports Tourer = Check Anti-Pollution System
Hi everybody,
This is my first post, so please be kind! :d
I bought my Megane diesel 1.5 auto in August. It runs fine and continues to run fine.
But at the beginning of October, this red warning light "check anti-pollution system" came up in the message section of my dash.
Along with an orange symbol for the engine and a spanner.
I suffered no loss of power, the car did not go into limp mode and the engine continues to sound fine.
I bought an OBD scanner. After plugging it in, it said there were no codes stored or errors in the engine however it did give up P1750. I have searched the internet for what that means in terms of a Renault code and have come up with nothing. Does anyone know what a P1750 error might mean?
Anyway my local Renault dealership hooked it up to one of their machines and was told Renault had a software solution as it was related to the car's injectors.
Then to cut a long story short, I had all the software on the ecu reinstalled (all for £49).
The dealership also gave my car a health check and said it was in very good nick, no engine/transmission/electronic faults etc for 100k+ miles. Presuming dealers make money on repairs, I assumed this was giving my megane a gold star.
For the next month, my car has been error free. Done a fair bit of motorway driving over the half term and weekly commutes to Manchester and Liverpool. But then last Friday, the "check anti-pollution system" message came back on along with the same two orange warning lights.
Again no loss of power or anything that would suggest what is wrong.
Anyway I reset the system using the ODB. Next day I had to do a 50-mile motorway journey. No lights or warnings. But after I had parked for half an hour at my destination, I had to make a short errand. As soon as pulled away, the lights came back on.:crazy:
So I have joined this forum in the hope that I can get some ideas as to what might be causing this issue. I am hoping someone has had the same mysterious problem and found out how to fix it.

So as I can't find out what's wrong through Renault I am sure better minds on this forum can help me work the problem.
So what else? Online searches have revealed more info but no real tangibles. For example, can a knackered DPF cause this sort of error while not producing a code error? Or maybe a sensor like the lambda 02 sensor (the second one after the catalytic converter)? Can it fail and trip the check anti-pollution sensor? Is the P1750 linked to the engine and spanner light coming on? Or is the catalytic converter on its way out as my car has done a 100k+?
All suggestions will be most welcome. :d

I bought my Megane diesel 1.5 auto in August. It runs fine and continues to run fine.
But at the beginning of October, this red warning light "check anti-pollution system" came up in the message section of my dash.
Along with an orange symbol for the engine and a spanner.
I suffered no loss of power, the car did not go into limp mode and the engine continues to sound fine.
I bought an OBD scanner. After plugging it in, it said there were no codes stored or errors in the engine however it did give up P1750. I have searched the internet for what that means in terms of a Renault code and have come up with nothing. Does anyone know what a P1750 error might mean?
Anyway my local Renault dealership hooked it up to one of their machines and was told Renault had a software solution as it was related to the car's injectors.
Then to cut a long story short, I had all the software on the ecu reinstalled (all for £49).
The dealership also gave my car a health check and said it was in very good nick, no engine/transmission/electronic faults etc for 100k+ miles. Presuming dealers make money on repairs, I assumed this was giving my megane a gold star.
For the next month, my car has been error free. Done a fair bit of motorway driving over the half term and weekly commutes to Manchester and Liverpool. But then last Friday, the "check anti-pollution system" message came back on along with the same two orange warning lights.
Again no loss of power or anything that would suggest what is wrong.
Anyway I reset the system using the ODB. Next day I had to do a 50-mile motorway journey. No lights or warnings. But after I had parked for half an hour at my destination, I had to make a short errand. As soon as pulled away, the lights came back on.:crazy:
So I have joined this forum in the hope that I can get some ideas as to what might be causing this issue. I am hoping someone has had the same mysterious problem and found out how to fix it.

Modus Front-Left Suspension 'Creak' Over Bumps -- Worn Strut or Bearing?
Six years old & only 25,000 miles but gets a lot of stick from vicious speed cushions in Cambridge city. Nothing obvious to the eye. Is it more likely to be a strut failure or just the top bearing? Could I get away with changing just the left-side part?

Renault 19 Speedometer cable
Hi all, my first post on the forum, unfortunately born out of necessity!
I have a 1989 Renault 19 TSE, 1397cc with five speed gearbox and 106,000 miles on the clock. Had it from new. The car just failed the MOT for a non-operational speedometer and it must have actually broken on the way to the test garage as I checked it once or twice en route! Garage contacted Renault who told them it is 'not available' so have been on the hunt but it is hard to find, registered with breaker networks, etc. Finally located a cable on ebay but it turned out to be wrong because it is only the mechanical type and my car has what is apparently an electro mechanical version with a number of wires attached to it leading to a contact block (also attached to the cable) at the instrument panel end. Not sure if this is something to do with the trip computer, which I think was a new feature on my model.
Therefore desperately seeking a replacement cable or else will have to scrap the car. So far drawing a blank with breakers and internet as apparently 19's were relatively rare compared to other models. Does anybody know of any other source I might try, i.e., specialist Renault breakers, etc? Would be grateful for any advice offered as car still runs quite well and would be sad to see it go for something so minor.

Squealing brakes - done before I know, but....
My wife has a Megane 1.6 petrol (2010 model - Mk3) and the brakes have just started intermittently squealing when NOT applied. The noise starts to appear roughly 10 minutes into a drive, I think only at lower speeds (circa 40 - 80 kmh) and it can certainly be heard with the windows up. It disappears when brakes are applied, and I don't think it occurs at higher speeds (although the noise might be cancelled out by engine noise at high speeds - in the Czech Republic we can drive up to 130 kmh on the motorways).
The pads are 2/3 through, and have been fitted for 2 years now without any issues prior to this.
I'm hoping that this may just be the copper grease needs renewing between the caliper and the back of the pad, but before I do this, could there be any other reasons for the squealing?

Renault megane scenic 1.6 16v, turns over wont start
Hi everyone,
just joined the forum so forgive me if i have accidently picked the wrong section to post in.
I dont usually go to these lengths with car problems but I am really stuck with this one.
Basically I was on my way home and I hear a noise which turned out my alternator belt had frayed , I did not know this as before I got chance to stop it stalled on me.
after cutting off the frayed parts of the belt the rest of the belt was still intact.
The car turns over but will not start, my battery is fully charged, all sparks plugs are sparking well, injectors are fueling fine and all the pulley are turning fine.
The fraying from the alternator belt did pull of a couple of wires out of their plastic clip but I haver had no fault code come up on my friends diagnostic equipment neither did i get an engine management light come on.
we also inspected the cambelt which is still in good condition and nice is taught as it should be.
I am hoping someone has any suggestions into helping me as I am truly stumped.
I am also getting a compression test tonight on it to see if that brings anything back.

LAG II 2.0 DCI blowing oil out breather
Hi All,
got a problem with my LAG II 2.0 DCI.
It seems to be blowing oil out the breather, this seems to have been happening for some time. At first i thought it was the turbo so i changed it for a 2nd hand unit that came off a low mileage car, still got the same symptoms, blue smoke at startup and oil in the boostpipes.
a while back i also had a problem with the EGR Valve it was throwing up the error P0488 EGR performance 'a' or something along those lines, anyway i took it off and cleaned it with some carb spray and good old flathead, it didn't seem that bad, but i had the same problem the weekend past and took it off and it was really bad, the EGR valve literally couldn't open there was that muc solidified carbon in there,i think the oil is contributing to this, so i cleaned it out and all is well again (for the next 2 months anyway)

Hi. I'm trying to sort out our Scenic 1 Dti 1.9.
After standing since about February we're having problems getting it going again. It basically starts fine (after changing the battery), but won't rev and when you try to rev the engine the glow plug/engine light comes on, after 10-20 seconds ticking over again you get another try, it may or may not rev to 2000 revs but no more. There is no turbo whine and I've reached down to the turbo actuator which seems to be fed with a small pressure line from the inlet manifold and I can't move it by hand so that *may* be stuck. Any ideas please? I've searched the forum for several hours and found out loads about the car but haven't been able to find this particular issue.

Megane I - interior light LED compatibility

I hoped that 36mm would fit the dome light, but the LEDs are too short and measured 35.5mm, while the original bulb is 37.1mm.
Can\Should I simply bend the holders a little bit? I'm not sure that would help. Or can anyone recommend any other solutions?

Mid Exhaust Pipe Size/Diameter
Anyone know the standard Internal Diameter of the mid section pipe? My back box has a hole in the bottom. The whole exhaust upto the cat is in one piece (welded)...don't wanna replace it all.
The Outer Diameter of the mid section nearest the backbox is 145mm, I'm guess it would be 140mm ID? 2.5mm thick pipe? I dunno. 140mm = 5.5inches ID?

Renault Master 57 plate using LOTS of oil
Can anyone suggest why my '57 plate Renault Master is using lots of oil? It is a LM35 DCi 120 and has done 85k miles. It has been converted to be a horsebox, and I have done 7k miles since I bought it 18 months ago. Nearly all of my journeys involve carrying a horse and other items which would take it about 300kgs below its payload.
It started off needing the oil topped up every 600-odd miles, but since being serviced (the service was £300, so, not just an oil change) the oil light comes on after 120 miles.
The engine has been steam cleaned and there is no sign of oil leaking. When I start it (i use it for at least a 30 mile journey once / twice a week), blue smoke comes out of the exhaust, but i am not aware of this happening when the engine is warm.
Since it was serviced, it seems to be using more diesel. I always have to drop a gear when going up an incline in the road (which is normal I assume), but I can sometimes smell oil when going up the hill.
I have had 2 mechanics look at it, both of whom do not have any idea what could be wrong, but now it is using so much oil, there must be something obvious to look at (other than a new engine.....).
Can anyone help? And by the way, I am female with a limited mechanical knowledge.........

Scenic 1 Caliper Mounting Bracket
Hi - Can you replace the Caliper Mounting Bracket on a Scenic Mk1?
Basically you remove the caliper then remove the pads from the backet, sit new pads into the bracket and put the caliper back on.
Can't seem to find the mounting bracket part for sale anywhere.

Project: Integrated Electric Gate remote
Hey everyone, I get my new car tomorrow and we are having a sliding electric gate fitted to the front entrance to our property. I am after some advice on an electrical project to permanently fit a switch into my car.

Wipers stopped working
i have 7 seater 06 Renault Scenic and the front window wipers have stopped working. I've located the fusebox to give this a try (right side inside the bonnet)
But there is two large screws Ive never these type before holding the fuse case in place. Is there something special I need to loosen them, dont think any of my screwdrivers would move them. Any helps appreciated

New Renault Owner

Just got my first ever car and its a Renault Megane Cabriolet 2.0ltr. Live in the UK and i am enjoying the experience so far. Few little niggles here and there but regardless of what i was told, the car is a good drive. Not that i have much experience yet! Clio mk2 electrical problems...
Having a few issues with my mk2 clio, horn decided a few days ago it didn't want to work.. Had a new one on it's last mot, the windscreen washer jets don't work as I've just found out, although the back one does though, cig lighter doesn't work either.. Went to use sat nav last night & nothing. Other than these problems when I put the car into reverse or indicate right the rear fog light on the dash flashes dimly although the rear fog stays off. So far the fuse for the horn has been checked & is ok. Don't have a clue about the rest of the electrical faults, really doing my head in now as it's problem after problem :(
Megane Door Lock Button
The "hands free" button on drivers side handle has stopped locking the door. It unlocks ok by just pulling handle.
All other doors work ok, all other remote functions work.
If this requires a replacement part how is it replaced? and is it an easy job.

Hi everyone I don't know if anyone recalls but I've been registered on this forum for years but 2 years ago I traded my 55plate megane ST for a Vauxhall Insignia. It's been a good car but I've decided to swap it for a 6 month old 14 plate Megane ST :)

Reanult Master dci120 Automatic Problem HELLP
Hello ,
As you guest i need help i have a Master with automatic gearbox and now i cant drive .
When i shift with the motor of i can hear it shifting but a gearbox light on the dash goes on when shifting in 4 and 6 gear.
But i put it in first trying to take of it shifts to N or it goes to into gear but then is a weird sound , some thing spinning and scratching on some thing and it still wont go .
I thanks in advance for any tips and help , English is not my mother language so sorry for any mistakes

After some advice if possible to a very non megane expert.
I have recently had my car read by diagnostic machine because it stopped starting.
It came back with a fault for the TCM (Transmission control module)
I have no idea how to fix this or what it even means so any help would be great.

Kangoo Authentique A dipstick

I am new to Renaults, having just bought a 2009 1.6 16v auto Kangoo. I want to check the engine oil level, and although I can just about see the dipstick at the front of the engine, I can barely touch it, because of all the obstructions, let alone take it out and check the oil. Am I missing something obvious?

megane ii cuts out when cold slight missfire aswell
hi I have a megane ii 1.6 changed the dephaser month or so ago .This problem was there befror the change .when I start the car from cold it can take 3 or 4 attempts to start here without accelerating and I get a misfire for a min or two .when I start here it revs up to just under 2000rpm then dies what can be causing this to happen ..thanks

Espace IV courtesy light / lights on buzzer
Morning chaps,
This is a long term problem on my Espace, unlike the range of intermittent ones, concerning the door switch.
I have searched and searched with no luck at all. The interior light doesn't come on when drivers door is opened, nor does it show on dash as open and the lights on buzzer doesn't work either. All other door sensors are fine.
This has caused flat battery twice when lights left on and is a pain when getting in the car in the evenings now.
I am sure the fix is simple and surprised I can't find it anywhere.
I assume there is a door micros with somewhere as there appears not to be a plunger type mechanism. Can anyone help?

timing belt 2003 renault scenic 1.6
hi guys, looking for some advice on changing a cambelt on a Renault scenic 1.6 16v 53 plate, my partner and father are confident in engines and changing components, but what I would like to know is do I need any special tools before starting this job, between them both they could start a shop with tools but you know what happens you start these big jobs and always need a 'special' tool so want to be prepared before hand.
I am happy to buy the timing belt kit which includes all the things I need inc water pump, should I change the aux belt too?
any advice and help would be great thanks in advance.

Part of Laguna Keycard casing stuck in ignition
Hi all
I have a 2003 Laguna II and yesterday my two year old pulled the key card out of the ignition at an awkward angle and unfortunately the top half of the casing stayed in the ignition. It had previously been cracked and taped up by my partner. It was on my to do list to get casing replaced but the list is long!
Anyway, I can still start the car with the broken key card as it seems to be slotting into the broken casing in the ignition and the car starts fine, but the spare key wont work as it cannot insert completely in to the slot with the broken casing in the way.
As the broken key is now exposed its only a matter of time before it stops working.
Anyone had this happen to them and manage to get the broken casing out?
I am afraid to just mess with it myself as if I move the stuck casing without getting it out the broken key may no longer fit in and so the car wont start.
Help anyone please?

Some of you may have read I was having problems with getting the dipped bulb back in.
Me and a friend had a look at it today and he couldn't get it back in once he took it out either. But he turned it round and tried it the other way and it went straight in.
I'm now thinking even though after an hour trying and getting it in I had it the wrong way round.
Now the drivers side dip bulb connector and wires are on the inside to the centre of the car. We can't get the bulb in with the same way round for the passengers (wires facing centre of car) but like I said with the passenger side having the wires and connector on the wing side it goes in no probs.
So to cut to the chase, can someone check on their clio mk2 phase 2 Which way their wires are facing.
Even if it's not right it works lmao.

Clio mk2 ph2 headlight restoration
Seeing that my headlights look a bit rough I was going to restore them with wet & dry. 1000-2500, what else would I need other than this & masking tape, clean micro fibres etc? What compound would I use after the sanding is done with? Another problem as well I have is the horn has decided not to work, it was replaced at its last mot & was wondering what I should look for to solve the problem? Thanks in advance :d

Also once the engine is hot if I accelerate sharply say from a set of lights it sometimes appears to bog down and doesn't clear till the revs pick up over 2000rpm. It's done 66k and doesn't get driven too hard. I read somewhere that the mixture is controlled indirectly by a water temperature sensor and if the sensor starts to fail it can mess the mixture up. I've seen some listed on ebay but I'm not sure which one it is or if that indeed is the problem. I looked around the engine and noticed a sensor on the side of the engine near to the battery. Would that be it?

2001 Scenic 1.4 Rear creak (suspension?)
During the last month my Scenic has developed a creak at the rear. I think it's on the near side and is noticeable going over speedhumps. I never drive over them fast though so the car is not thrashed. I tried squirting Wd40 on the lower shocker bushes and around the arm bearings but it made no difference. The wheel looks ok without any major lean. If I push down on the rear bumper it is there as well. Car has done 66k.
Haynes doesn't have a very good drawing so not sure what it might be. Any ideas?

Alternator removal
Hi,
I have just joined the forum, hopeing to get some help.
I have a 05 grand scenic 1.6 petrol. The alternater belt shedded and the pully on the end of the alternator is broken up. Was making a squeeling/ rattling kind of noise before let go. Looks like the alternator might be siezed. Im trying to remove it, but cant get the lowwer bolt out as its blocked by the chassis rail from coming out completly. Any ideas, can see how else to remove this long bolt. any other advice relating to this problem would be much appreciaed.

Intermittent random lights failure
Hi, I have a 2003 renault megane convertible and I'm at the end of my tether with random intermittent lights failure. Sometimes they are fine, others times I indicate or go around a round about and front beam goes out other times rear and dash goes out for no reason. I have been to two garages who have drawn a blank. I tested them recently in preparation for an mot and when turning the column stalk switch from side lights to beam the rear lights seemed to flicker. There seems to be no pattern to this failure and no one seems to have a solution. Many thanks in advance
New Limited Grand Scenic heater issues
Hi. I bought a Grand Scenic Limited 2 months ago. Last week the heater just started blowing cold air, so a new resistor was put in place. Since then, the rear heaters blow only cold air (while the front are fine) and the front blower, when on max, tends to lose power at various intervals when the front screen demist mode is activated. So, does anyone know, are the rear under floor and side door heaters using a different heat stream to the front blowers and any idea on the 'dipping' of power to the blowers? Not seen this one before, and i don't know how the heating system is connected on the larger car models? The heat in the car just does not seem right - but i am at a loss now and the garage are not sure either! The girlfriend thinks she could smell burning for a few moments 2 days ago!

Golden Syrup
A man with a completely bald head and only one leg is invited to a Xmas fancy dress party.

Electronic parking break reset after using yellow release pull
I have an 05 Laguna estate 1.9dci and on Friday had a new rear calliper, discs and pads fitted at a local garage, when I picked the car up when braking firmly it came up with braking fault, when I stopped on a hill and put parking brake on it started to roll back so I pressed pedal and the parking brake starting making a louder noise and then when I tried to release the parking brake the dash said parking brake fault and it wouldn't release it. So I got the garage back out to it but had to pull the yellow handle under the centre column to return it the garage, I've spoke to the garage they say they have cleared the fault on the dash but haven't had time to reset the emergency pull cable, would the reset procedure posted on here do the job. No communication with engine management system
My 03 V6 Laguna will not start.

It simply stopped while the engine was running and I was reversing in a car park.
It turns over, though the battery has gone a little flat from repeated attempts to start the car.
I hooked on the Snap on OBDII scan tool.
It will not communicate with the engine management system. Previously I have connected with the same scan tool and retrieved engine fault codes.
It will retrieve information from other areas, like the transmission section.
I am wondering what can be wrong.
Has a fuse blown, I can't find one that has.
Has a relay failed, if so which ones would I be checking.

clio 2004,1.4 16v auto box slipping problem
Just wondering if any one can assist with any info.
when the accellerator is pushed down,the auto box seems to take ages to engage and move the vehicle.
(like clutch slipping)
Also on motorway kick down seems to engage ok,but keeps the revs up high for ages,even after the accellerator has been lifted.
If i need to source a 2nd hand box,is it a straight fit,will anything need to be plugged in and coded?

I have a scenic 2002 1.9 dci,last week I experienced clutch judder when setting off,everything else was fine,now yesterday the mrs started the car and a whining noise came from the clutch area,when clutch pedal pressed in it went,also a smell of burning coming from that area.the mrs also said there was no biting point trying to get the car out of gear,any ideas plz what it is.thanks for your help

Fuel injection warning light
this light comes on intermitantly but the engine is running perfectly. When it is on it stays on until engine is switched off. When restarting engine the light is out.

abs warning lights on Renault megane w reg - help

I'm just posting to see if anyone has any ideas how to fix an abs fault on a renault megane 1.6 16v W reg (year 2000). The service, handbrake and abs lights come on once the car is moved forward. Four months ago I had two abs sensors changed (one front and one rear) and the abs pump and control unit changed (which I got from a breakers yard.) This resolved the problem and for the past four months the warning lights have been out.
However three weeks ago I came back from holiday and the car wouldn't start. The AA thought the fault was the crank sensor and towed it to a garage. The garage changed the crank sensor but this wasn't the fault instead it turned out to be the fuse for the ignition system. Once this was changed the car would start again. However, within 20 metres of picking up and driving out of the garage the abs warning lights were back on.
I'm not sure what to do now as most of the abs system has been changed except two sensors. I don't want to spend much more money on the car as I've already spent quite a bit. I'm wondering if it could just be a fuse??
I've had the AA out who checked the wiring and thought this looked ok but didn't know where the 60 amp fuse was. They used their diagnostics and we got the following fault codes:
Valve relay fault
Front left Outlet Valve Fault
Front Right Outlet Valve Fault.
Does anyone have any ideas??

Turbo on the way out ?
Hi folks,
My EGR is wet with oil which is dripping down onto the turbo and underbody tray beneath. The little vacuum actuator above the EGR is also wet with oil.
If I drive along at a reasonable pace my car is smoke free, but if I am coasting then plant my foot down i get a nice plume of black smoke from the exhaust.
All of the above happened on my Jap 4x4's that I used to run and was perfectly normal , but after reading the horror stories on here i'm not so sure it isn't impending turbo failure !! :eek:
To add to the above over the last couple of weeks my MPG has dropped by about 4-5 MPG and I am not sure if it is as nippy as it once was although I did wonder if I had a sticky front brake caliper.

My EGR is wet with oil which is dripping down onto the turbo and underbody tray beneath. The little vacuum actuator above the EGR is also wet with oil.
If I drive along at a reasonable pace my car is smoke free, but if I am coasting then plant my foot down i get a nice plume of black smoke from the exhaust.
All of the above happened on my Jap 4x4's that I used to run and was perfectly normal , but after reading the horror stories on here i'm not so sure it isn't impending turbo failure !! :eek:
To add to the above over the last couple of weeks my MPG has dropped by about 4-5 MPG and I am not sure if it is as nippy as it once was although I did wonder if I had a sticky front brake caliper.

Hi , after fitting 2 x new rear cluster boards I still have brake lamps flashing when indicating , could anybody suggest what I could check next , I know to the under bonnet fuse box but what would I best be doing with this , clean , replace relays etc. please any advice will be great as I do want to take to a garage. DIY leak-off kit using coke bottles?

The other week I was looking through this forum having just joined, and found a post which showed a home-made leak-off rig which was 4 coke bottles lined up with tubes going into them.
I cannot for the life of me find this thread.

2006 Clio 1.5 Diesel Turn Key nothing happens

I've got this new shape Clio Diesel,parked it for a week went back to it and nothing happens when you try to start it with Both Keys,charged battery up and still nothing apart from the Electric Radiator Fan Coming on.Anyone any ideas.Thanks.

intermittent excessive power (yep strange)
bit of an odd one...
some times my laguna goes like my old 90bhp one, and then some times it seems to go like at a guess it should do 120 bhp.
and then it goes like a rocket....
ive pluged in one of those iphone diagnostics things and it comes back with no faults.
(i did check that teh thing was working by unpluging egr, boost regulator, and the faults showed when unplugged)
anyone got any ideas?

Tail light query
Okay, have had 4 motability Renaults, 3 of which including now are the Modus.
Sunday night leaving in laws received a text from them to say when we reversed out the drive the near side tail light was out. We have performed the same maneuver many many times so obviously something looked different.
Rang garage and they booked it in for repair, and I took it over to them.
After looking it over, half hour or so the service manager and engineer came and told me there was nothing wrong. The engineer took me round to the garage to show me.
He told me that they get at least 10 a month with this non fault that since 2004 the cars had no nearside tail light.
He showed me my car with no tail light and said that was correct.
I have been unable to find anything online to confirm this but feels wrong to me.

Faulty senic 2 dashboard
I drive an 05 plate Renault scenic II and the dashboard keeps flashing off and on. I need a new instrument cluster.

glow plug light comes back on.
Hi everybody I am new to the forum so if I have posted in the wrong place I apologies now.
I have for my sins a Renault Master 2.2 Dci which has given me various problems the latest of which now rectified was a non starting problem after an awful lot of cranking over I eventually found a blocked air inlet van now starts great BUT now after it has started the glow plug light comes back on and stays on can anyone give me a hint as to what may be causing this is any thing to do with the thermo plunger preheating system or is there a relay that may be faulty.Any assistance will be greatly appreciated many thanks in advance.

Renault Clio 1.5 dci mk 3 starter motor
Hello, I have a clip 1.5 dci and the starter was broke so I've replaced it but the bolt had snap so had to strip air filter ect. After everything was all back together and i drove the car for abit it seems as though all the power isn't there as it was before, I did however get the air mass senser a little bit wet as it started raining and I'm wondering if this would affect the sensor and the power that seems missing? Any help would be great thanks, Tyler.

My 2000 Espace 3 has developed a noise - which I have traced to the gearbox.
It has, for about two weeks (maybe 250 miles) been making a noise like a stone in a tyre - a knocking type noise, but a dull thud rather than a clicking from a stone. Of course, it wasn't heard above a certain speed, but eventually I worked it out.
Today, the noise is different, sounds like an electric motor being turned by hand...
So I have climbed under the car and have two questions please...
1. Should the right hand drive shaft move in and out easily like mine does, there is nothing at all securing it in to the box, apart from the pushing from the wheel end... There is grease around the "joint" but otherwise it takes very little effort to move it. (No oil comes out when I do...)
2. Do you think this noise is ok - by that I mean do you think that if I fill up the oil level, the noise will go away and really be gone - not just masked?
I ask the second question because I have a long journey to make soon - about 1500 miles - and I don't want to break down. I have had a Clio gearbox seize on me, in the middle of the same route that I am planning, and last year at the same route AND time, I lost the cam belt on my old Espace.
I should add perhaps also that the gearbox area has some oil or grease spillage or leakage - it is oily generally there - but there has never been a drop of anything come out onto the road underneath. This may have come from above, or may have come from the gearbox perhaps. Either way, the rotating driveshaft has spread it about of course!!

Just need advice on rear parking sensors from ebay, any pointers please.
Last Renault a clapped out 14 (I think), drove well after a new clutch got it for nowt so just ran it until it said no more...

Clio ECU set part numbers

Trying to find an ECU set for my car. I can find the right ECU number, but struggling to find any of them that have the same UCH number with them as well.
Does anyone know, if for example, my ECU number was 1111 and I matched it with 1111, if my UCH was 12345A and I got one with 12345 or 12345B would it work?

Megane II Electronic Fault... Help please :(

I am hoping someone can help.
while driving home last night in the rain and puddles, my megane started to flash warning signs service stop etc... and the headlights started to flash on and off and the indicators started to flash fast, the steering locked and there was a loss of power so i pulled over but car would not start, so after being towed home, with 3 irritated kids lol , the fusebox under the bonnet was checked and it was full of water, so thats been dried overnight and im hoping that should solve it, has anyone else had this problem that they have been able to fix it?, with 3 boys and just weeks from xmas im worried it will cost a fortune..

Renault scenic indicator issue
Just bought a Renault scenic 99/00 model.
Really pleased with but unfortunately non of the indicators work at all.Checked the fuses but that does not seem to solve the problem.
Also the clock/radio display does not work.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Headlights flash when indicating on clio
I just wondered if anyone has had the same problem as me with their Clio.
When I indicate my headlights flash for a second and then when it automatically corrects itself after turning the headlights stay on for about 5 seconds then go off.
Any ideas what the problems is?

Cannot remove anti-tamper box above ECU
Apart from grinding the top off, how does one remove the box above the ECU on the back of the engine, despite the dial wheel inside it apparently being brass, it is somehow stuck solid and refuses point blank to move and even snapped a drill bit without bugging a millimeter. I've tried moving it up and down, having someone pull it as I've tried turning it but this was to no avail.
I've also tried a good old hammer and chunky screw driver which has bent it a little but not nearly enough to get inside it and turn the wheel by other means.

Tapping noise
Hi all, i have a Renault scenic 1.9 dti w reg
a loud tapping noise is coming from my engine bay,
ive checked oil level and it seems ok
it seems to be getting louder and i cant afford to be without the car.
Id be grateful for any advise

57 plate modus chugging smell fuel
Mother in laws modus has developed a bad chugging with no power. Feels like missfire. No codes or management light. Changed cool pack and plug leads and crank sensor. Still the same. It is bad smelling of fuel. It is worse when you try to rev it. It coughs and splutters and smells bad at exhaust. All compressions ok too. Any idea guys. Thanks.
