Hello everybody, and greetings from Finnish winter!
I am a 43-year old Renault-owner (actually now even two Renaults) and been a Renault fan almost all my life, maybe because my late dad used to have a R21 Nevada GTX in the 80s and 90s, continued with a Kangoo sometime around 2003. Seen many Renaults all my life since my childhood in 70s.
Eventually the reason for joining this forum is its good quality. Every time I google something to find a solution (even a McGyver solution) to my Renault, I end up reading UK-forums. There are fairly good forums in Finland, although Renault is massively underrated in Finland.
I am not a technician, but stubborn to be DIY as long as possible so the garage is the last option. Moreover, I am pretty conservative and not willing to drive modern cars because they have all kinds of hi-teck computerized systems just too expensive to repair. And in this age, I do look for nostalgia from older cars even if they would have even more problems than post-millenium Renaults.
My favourite Renaults are the models from good old 70s and 80s: R16, R18, R21/Nevada/Savanna, R25, R9/11... maybe now even also Laguna Mk1 and Megane Mk1 as examples of 90s elliptic "humanoid-design".
I have some experience from other cars than Renaults, mainly short stretches of other people's cars: 80s Honda Civic, 94 reg Toyota Carina E, early 90s Toyota Carina II, early 80s Talbot Horizon, 89 reg Nissan Bluebird 2.0 SLX, a 70s Volvo 242, early 80s Mazda 323, late 70s Ford Taunus, 90 reg Ford Sierra 2.0 DOCH, mid 90s Ford Mondeo SV, late 80s BMW 316, late 90s Opel (Vauxhall) Astra SV...
Apart from my work, graduate studies and family life with my wife and our daughter and our three cats, Renaults and driving is a hobby and an important part of my life. I must admit that I must have spent more time with my Renault than in doing the dishes or reading books...:d
