Hi guys, yestarday my Renault Espace broke. I was going in the car with my daddy, we used the car in the morning and did about 70/80 kilometres without problems, everything was fine. In the evening we started up the car from the house, we did about 20/30 metres until a stop signal, then my dad accelerated after the stop and one or two seconds later the engine sunndely shut down on a bend downhill. We tried to restart it but we were hearing the starter motor only. The power steering wasn't working and we parked the car. (luckily we were downhill and there was a park near there). Today I checked the car, and i found out that the auxiliary belt was half broken (but still on one of the gears, not fallen apart and I easily took out it.). So I tought that there wans't any big damage. The mechanic took the car with the tow truck because it didn't started (i tought it was caused by a low battery without the alternator, and because I've got only a 64ah battery on the car, if I repair it I'll need to change it). When he checked the car he said that the timing belt was broken, and it was related with the auxiliary belt (if i didn't understand wrong the auxiliary belt gone into the timing belt, but when i took out the half broken auxiliary belt it was on its gears, my dad told me that the mechanic said it, or that the auxiliary belt broke suddenly after the timing belt as a consequence). I think this is really strange. No battery or temperature warning or strange noises, the engine shut off only, but both the belts broken. If i didn't understand wrong, the valves (or just some?) are bent, he told this to my dad, but he didn't opened the whole engine.
We would have took the car to mechanic next week to change the belts and renew the engine, what a bad luck!
Now my dad thinks to change it (unfortunately i just fitted original xenon headlights, and many other bits in the lasts months) but i'll be very expensive to repair, we could sell it for parts or entire but i want to repair it, because we can't find a good replacement and for a good price, and it's so so comfortable and spacey, it seems to be in a living room. We want to keep the Espace running if we could fix it for a decent price (not for thousands of euros).
My ideas are:
-Take a used engine from a scrappy and change belts and vvt pulley on it and mount it on my car (but I don't like much this solution, maybe the engine's got lots of kms or it was used badly...)
-Take a used engine cylinder head from a scrappy for cheap, and fit a new set of valves (is it needed? I think it would be better but i don't know): http://ift.tt/1DyBhn7
-Buy a whole running Espace 2.0 16V for parts (as i would need some other little parts.. but this isn't a problem) from Germany, there are cheap flys to Germany and it's pretty near from where i live.. But i think this is a pretty difficult solution to do.. but we'll see. :d
-Fit this engine from Clio RS: http://ift.tt/1BzSFew
(but if it'll fit I dread it would be too thursty :d and maybe not so reliable as the F4R 140hp, it never had problems.
The mechanic is a dad's friend, so I could work sometimes in his garage, where the car is. Now we're using my mum's Punto Evo.
How do you think it happened? And most of all what do you suggest me to do to repair the car? (don't suggest me to scrap it please, I don't need these advices). I would try to repair it myself if I can do it, as it's already broken or I think we'll have to change the car.
Apart from this problem the car is fine, no problems at all.
Thank you very much
Byebye! :o
