I picked up a 2.0DCI sports tourer in January, with factory fitted projector HIDs.
Their light output was about the same brightness as an early Mk1 Citroen Xantia, really washed out but also slightly pink, suggesting the bulbs needed replacing, which they definitely did!
Now I've fitted new bulbs and taken a sander to the headlights, they are brighter, on a par with normal halogens, but nowhere near as bright as HIDs should be.
Along the top of the cut-off they are much brighter, which suggests to me that the reflector bowls in the projectors are old and tired.
Unfortunately the web is full of retro kits for fitting projectors to normal halogen headlights rather than dealing with them after 8 years of life.
Does anyone know the make and model of the projectors? They're not available as a separate item from Renault, and £600+ for a new headlight units is a bit steep when only the projectors need replacing. I'd rather not have to remove the bumper twice, once to find out what to replace them with, and again to actually fit them.
