Hello there.
First of all thank you for this forum, it's really helped me trace issues with my recent Clio Purchase.
Now to the issue...
Basically, I purchased yesterday a 52 plate Clio 1.5DCi with a cutting out problem. Did some searching before hand and read about the TDC, EGR and major fuel pump disintegration.
Today I spent some time on it and I appear to have cured the cutting out problem. Basically the car would start but under any real power (foot down even light) it would stall out.
Today I've cleaned the EGR and replaced the TDC with a new one. I've also checked the fuel filter drain off for any metal particles but it all looks clean.
Seems at the minute that this has cured the cutting out issue as I managed to drive it with no cutting out.
However, and this is the new problem, I have noticed that a few times I've started it, it revs up ridiculously high well over 3k at which point I stop it and start it again and it's fine.
Can't work out what's causing it.
I've not read any codes yet. I've ordered a reader and also have a guy I can pay to come read it as a back up but I'm just wondering in the mean time if anyone has any ideas where to start looking.
The only things I can think of are Accelerator sensor on the accelerator pedal or leaking injector.
It's worth noting here that I can start the car, it doesn't rev high and then I can start it again 10 mins later and it will so I would think if the injector(s) are leaking, it could be leaking quite bad.
I also see blue smoke at the minute although it looks like that's dying down and could have been all the crud burning off.
Obviously I'll read the codes ASAP if possible but could do with any ideas in the mean time.
I'm no mechanic btw just trying to get a cheap run around up and running for me and the Mrs.
I also think the car has been tuned at some point in it's life due to the more or less straight through exhaust excluding a back box. Oddly though if it was tuned the previous owner(s) didn't do many miles. According to the MOT it barely did 6k per year between being presented for inspection.
It definitely seems pokey for a 1.5. I owned a tuned 206 HDi DT which went like stink on a simple remap and this Clio feels equally on par response and power wise.
Any suggestions for places to look would be welcome while I wait for my code reader :)
Many thanks,
Mike
