Having trouble with this car again... (2004 Renault Clio 1.2 Dynamique). Last time it was the radiator fan not coming on and that got fixed. However now there seems to be even more problems. Looks like this car hasn't been taken care of before!
1. So this has been going on for a few months now. The car won't start. Turning on the ignition, dashboard lights go on, some go out as appropriate. Turn the key to start the car, something clicks and nothing happens. Other times if you don't wait for the lights to go out, the engine either does the click and nothing happens or attempts to start but then stops after a few seconds. And sometimes it just starts fine. No warning lights or anything.
2. Another thing is that the water temperature and the RPM needle just 'turn off'. Sometimes together, sometimes either one. This happens for a few seconds or can be up to a minute. The car operates fine (sort of, will explain further) even when it happens.
Also, a few times the following happened:
The RPM needle drops and raises quickly a few times. When that happens, sometimes the SERV and airbag light either comes one for a few seconds or erratically flashes and goes off again.
3. A few days ago, I was driving and suddenly when accelerating the car was twitching as if I kept pushing the pedal down and releasing it quickly over and over. This happened on all gears. At idle the car didn't twitch if you rev it up. However, there was an occasional small twitch at idle. Hard to notice if you're not paying attention. The revs drop very slightly.
Took the car for inspection and repairs, they replaced the spark plugs and said it was probably them. They asked me to test it and see if its fine and it was. No more twitching during acceleration. Until today.
The car again twitches on acceleration, but not as much and not as violently as before.
When driving, if I slow to about 10mph then accelerate harshly in 2nd gear, its fine. If I stop for a bit (at a red light for example) and then accelerate, 2nd gear same speed as before it twitches lightly. Similarly with all other gears.
So are could all of these be related or not? Could it be possible that the alternator is at fault for all of this? I am taking the car back to the repair guys as they said if it does it again take it back, but that will only be tuesday so I'm asking here first.
