can anyone help me. I've just been made a where that the downpipe is cracked and very rusted, my brother advised me that I might have to buy a full exhaust system. Any advise would be great on this matter, preferably where to find the parts near Glasgow for a good price

coolant leak - manifold bolt?

I have a coolant leak in the '97 Megane coming from behind the exhaust manifold, so I presume it's the block plugs that have rusted out due to water usage in the past, or maybe the metal pipe connecting the water pump.

I remove the exhaust manifold and 2 of the studs unscrew with the nuts, (that sometimes happens) but coolant starts coming out of the stud holes! That doesn't seem normal... the bolt holes shouldn't be in contact with the head cooling system..? Is this normal on this head design? :confused:

The block plugs don't seem to be in bad shape and the source of the leak...

I searched google and couldn't find any thing conclusive. The probability of a crack in the head or gasket seems little, since the stud holes are on either side - see photo.

Laguna 1 DEPO headlamp main beam too high

With age, my Valeo headlamps became opaque. Fully functioning headlamps are a legal safety requirement for the vehicle and this is checked during the annual MOT. So my 2.0 litre, 16 valve Renault Laguna RTi was updated with a new pair of aftermarket DEPO headlamps. (I could not get new replacement Valeo headlamps.)

These looked good until the MOT declared that their main beams were too high. The electronic and manual adjustment are now on their maximum limit. The headlamp beam adjuster switch in the cabin will reluctantly lower both beams so that they will just pass the MOT requirement. But there is now no main beam height adjustment when there are passengers and/or the boot is loaded.

Has anyone encountered a similar Valeo headlamp replacement problem and what was the remedy? Thank you.

Scenic 1.9 Wont Start - help me eliminate causes

2004 Scenic 1.9 Engine turns fine but car wont start....

bought car recently knowing the battery was on its way out and that the rocker cover gasket leaks oil...drove home 20miles without any issues, parked up and let the engine run for another 20minutes so battery can charge, when I came back out to switch of the engine I realized that the coolant reservoir was steaming and overflowing along with some oil leaking out the top gasket.

The next day I tried to start the car, it kind of start on the first try but cut out immediately, and has never started since. After reading this forum I tried the following;

-I replaced the battery, turns over perfectly but does not start...

-I cleaned the crank sensor (tdc), no luck...even though I cleaned it the magnetic tip was still black, should I get a new one?

-Tested the glow plugs, all plugs are 12+v except glow plug 3 which is 0.02v, also glow plug 4 has alot of oil around it from the leakage...can the glow plugs be the cause?

-Could it be the immobilizer, even though I unlock the car and insert the key card, the red light stays on until I press the start button, is that normal?....is they a way to reset or test to see if it is the immobilizer?

Megane 1.6 110 VVT questions

Well having had my 2010 1.6 coupe (45k on the clock) for just over a week - I'm a bit....well.... UNDER whelmed.

I've been driving carefully after filling it up and currently it's showing 40MPG having done 50miles and it's showing a range of 510 left. Which i can live with.

As for power, well it sits at 3000 RPM at 60mph which based on a previous post seems normal, but it's really flat on acceleration, nearly to the point where I'm thinking I would have little confidence attempting to overtake.

I don't know if it's just me going from 130bhp TDI to the 1.6 petrol and this is normal or if a good oil and filter service would make it better.

Also I've had the spanner and 'Check ESP' light show up briefly on the trip home from collecting it on it's first run (hasn't shown since) and then today the spanner symbol showed for about 3 seconds and went off (no message) while driving.

Any comments / suggestions appreciated!

Clio mk3 headlights

Hi my car failed it's MOT due to the headlights not working.

My father tested every single fuse on the two fuse boxes (steering column and right side of the battery) and they were all ok.

There seems to be no power going to the headlight cables (directly connected to headlight).

Light on dashboard comes on and all other lights work.

Any ideas? We ain't sure where the relays are for these either.

hi my renault master 2008 interior lights constantly think a door is open, however the warning light on the dash will not light, have checked all for switches and they all seem to test fine. Is there a switch on the bonnet?? also when unlocking the van it flashes the hazard lights but they won't flash when I'm locking it.. any ideas?

I have a laguna 2 model 2002 , the automatic gearbox showed some oil leakage , but it works perfectly . I decided to change the oil sealer and the oil as will. after doing so the car automatic gearbox stopped functioning normally and working only reverse mode. I did computer checking but it showed no thing. could please tell me what went wrong with my gear box.

Water in both footwells

Hi,
Can anyone help me. I have a 2003 scenic 1.9dti and have noticed water in both the drivers and passenger footwells. The car has no sunroof and I have checked the scuttle drains and they are clear. Also i don't think its the heater matrix as there is no water/coolant loss. Can anyone advise as to where else water may be getting in ? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I'm completely new to these forums so I'm not too sure if this question is in the correct place.
I've recently had a new wing mirror (just the glass) on my Clio III passenger side and things appear to be smaller in this mirror compared to the drivers side. I was just wondering whether or not this is normal with Clio's to have different wing mirror types?

Strange engine noises (WITH VIDS): Any advice appreciated

Hello,

I was wondering if someone may be able to shine some light (no matter how bright) on what could be wrong with my Renault Megane 2003 uk model.

All was working fine until i gradually started to hear a noise coming from the engine area. Upon further inspection it appears there is a strange deep knocking sound coming from cylinder 1 or 2 of the engine (other ones seem ok) and the alternator is making a louder than usual sound. No sure if these are two separate issues (alternator and engine issue) or if could be
linked.

I've included two vids of the strange sounds. If you have any ideas on what the issue(s) could be any advice would be really appreciated no matter how small (as I know there's only so much that can diagnosed from a video!) :o

Exhaust Silicone Sealant

My 2.0 litre 16 valve Renault Laguna RTi needs a new four box exhaust system complete with Lambda sensor. Does anyone have any experience of using Exhaust Silicone Sealant.

Looking for something that will tolerate the high temperature, but unsure what would be a high temperature for the Laguna RTi, especially the exhaust manifold joint. The silicone sealant would need to be safe for use upstream of the Lambda sensor and catalytic converter.

Which lambda sensor safe, high temperature exhaust silicone sealant is appropriate?

Clio wont start but turnover**URGENT**

Clio 1.6 16V 2001 (YV51). Ok I'll start from what happened. It was raining so it was slidey I was coming off a roundabout in maybe 5000 revs in 2nd gear and when I changed into 3rd or maybe before I did my car conked out on me in the lay by I turned my key and it wouldn't start at all. Next day at home I listen to what noise it makes and its not like the noise when it struggles to start or like no petrol it's just a flat noise but wasting battery power away. (Batts fine) also on my dash all icons go out bar the handbreak battery oil and STOP now when I look to see when I turn my kep my petrol needle drops to nothing and the light comes on (got half tank) I have checked the forums and most have pointed to the crank shaft sensor... I have cleaned that and still nothing... I really don't know what else it is lm no mechanic please help. Does it sound familier. There was a slight noise at the exhaust part (MAYBE) the first time I tried it. I'm not sure bit doesn't make the noise again.

Anyway as the title says, I think the wrong oils gone in the car


I distinctively remember the RAC dude filling the car with semi synth oil...

Today I had service light plus low lol- and I frantically drive to get oil.
Not very clever with the renault if I'm honest and I gentleman with an old Audi turbo diesel helped me with my quest.
He told me to add 1ltr of semi synth which states for high performance Diesel engines and go to halfords for further help! He said he uses that oil and his car engines equally as old and powerful

So I get to halfords and they type my reg in and tell me I need fully synth oil...
Immediately I remember my last oil change and paying through the bake for 8ltr of fully synth oil....

Horror filled my body and I explained to the gentleman what had happened
He got some advice and said to me that since semi synth is already in he suggested another bottle of semi synth when I reach my location ( I've come on holiday ) and then go for my annual oil change and get it all flushed and have the correct oil put in.
Oil change was last November but I had previously had an oil and filter done in the august too!
I've done around 7000k since and the gentleman I met at the first garage who helped with the oil said forget the advice that it's 12k for every oil change and get it done every 6k or 6/8 months

Well I have this extra bottle from halfords of semi synth; and I'm due to drive tomorrow and back to Nottingham Tuesday ( in Matlock at the moment )
I'm currently sitting on minimum oil but the service lights gone off and the dash tells me "oil ok"


What do you suggest guys? I'm

Shall I book an "urgent oil change" over the next 1/2 weeks since I don't have the little flashing spanner on the dash yet?

I am due to pick up my Clio which has R-link. What file formats are playable? I know it will play .mp3 and .wma
But does anyone know if it will play Apples .AIFF basically the file that iTunes uses. Or do I have to convert them .mp3 before they'll play via USB.

Any help would be great, I want prepare a USB with music on prior to picking the car up

Hi I' looking for help or advice my wife's megane 2 1.5 dci 05 plate is due a cambelt change though I'm not scared of using the spanner's my question is are there any picture /walk through's of this procedure that could help also is there any pitfalls to lookout for or is it straight forward diy job. Like undoing/ tightening bottom floating pulley also locating timing pins thanks :d

Oxygen Lambda Sensor

Thankfully the 2.0 litre 16 valve Renault Laguna RTi has one oxygen lambda sensor.

It is located on that small section of exhaust pipe between the front joint and the catalytic converter, either on the top or side of the exhaust pipe. The electrical connection quickly reveals its location. It has numerous part references and a direct replacement is preferred because it has the correct electrical connection. A new part is advocated because it is difficult to test, other than during an MOT.

I was expecting to pay £20, but a Google search for a new NGK 0156 reveals a typical price variation of between £85 to £47. Does anyone know how to get a new NGK 0156 for about £20. Thank you.

Finally got Terry back on the road and he's just coped well with a road trip from Kent, up through the length of Wales and back again. Found a few areas which need tidying up. I still think that he's not running quite perfectly despite all the usual routine servicing, so I'll move onto cleaning the carb, checking the distributor, checking the timing etc. However, he's running pretty well. The cooling was marginal on hot days on the motorway and on mountain roads. Just wondering whether that's due to the remaining minor running issues or whether its simply to be expected - he only has the 1647 cc petrol engine? If it is to be expected, has anybody done anything such as fitting a larger radiator, an oil cooler, ducting to force more air through the radiator, or similar? BTW, I've flushed the rad and it appears to be in good condition. Any advice gratefully received! Cheers, Rob

How to open 3 button flip key fob??

it appears the micro switch on the middle (Lock) button on my 3 button flip key fob has come undone ... the car wont centrally lock ... but the top (unlock) button and bottom (boot) button work ... I've looked up what I have to do to replace and solder the micro switch ... but my question is stupidly basic ... how do I open the key fob??
I've been going round in circles for hours now looking at the forums and youuibe videos and I know how to open just about every type of key fob except this one!! don't want to use brute force and ignorance in case I break it - any help is generously sought after - cheers :-)

Renault scenic 2005 1.5dci low power problem and fuel funnyness

everything worked perfectly fine until one day half way through her travels she put her foot to the floor and the response and rev increase was really slow, if the car is parked up and you rev it no problems, under further investigation i have noticed we have this loss of power when traveling at 30+ mph or when the engine is under load, i have removed and cleaned the egr valve and piping, which mate roughly 25% power com back, my next action was to replace the fuel filter, under further inspection i noticed that the fuel supply line had large air bubbles in it, this is between the primer bulb and the fuel filter, you can only see thease air bubbles when the engine is switched off and the fuel flows backwards through the line, the air bubbles come from the fuel filter and go to the primer bulb and stop there, also i have noticed when the engine is running the fuel return line as a large amount of small bubbles coming through every once in a while, any help is greatly appreciated

Fueling issue ??

Renault master 2.2 dci 2001 plate, only ever use around quarter tank capacity , until recently had some longer journeys to make, so filled her up,
Van ran great apart from a blowing injector seal, that's another story ,
Two weeks ago, tank reading half full van stuttered and surged then wouldn't rev properly and lost power, no lights on dash illuminated, so, symptoms were like fuel shortage decided to fill her up, and van ran fine again, until that is it got halfway down guage similar scenario, but glow plug light now illuminated,
This has occurred a few times, until I fill it back up I did think fuel level sensor stuck, but after £15.00 of fuel the tank overflowed onto garage forecourt , so the tank is full, but, after around 100 miles it starts playing up, could it possibly be a lift pump problem, and if so, does tank need to be off to get to it ??

scenic 2 1.9 dci massive coolant loss

sitting in a traffic queue yesterday the cooling fan came on then the temp gauge climbed up to max...pulled in and let it cool..took 4 litres of water to reach max level on expansion tank..water thereafter pouring out roughly where gearbox meets engine..not at radiator area..i checked all hoses today and all seems ok..if water pump is driven from cambelt then all dry there as well..are there any hoses at the top rear of engine that cant be seen by the home mechanic ?? ... all opinions welcome..

I have noticed lately if I have been driving round for a while and I switch the engine off it is very difficult to restart but yesterday after driving the car for about 1 hr I called at a shop switched the engine off and when I tried to restart then nothing, it turned over but didn't even attempt to start as was late in the day I left over night went back to it this morning turned the key and it fired up, drove home left it running for 30 mins turned it off then will not start again.
Any ideas

Interior Lights Fuse - Clio 1.2 02

Hi All

I have searched the forum and there are a number of posts about interior lights but nothing which specifically deals with my issue. Also, I didn't want to resurrect old forum posts from a year ago.

I have a Clio Expression 1.2 16V 52 Plate and the interior lights are not working. I have replaced the bulbs in the compartment at the front in the hope that this was the problem. However this hasn't worked.

I have looked on the fuse box cover for the symbol that represents the interior lights, as indicated in the owners manual, however I cannot find the symbol. Does this mean they are covered by another fuse that controls other functions of the car? Apologies for the simplicity of this as I'm not car savvy, this is my 1st car and I only passed my driving test 16 months ago.

If anyone could provide me with any help I would be extremely grateful.

I'm a very happy owner of a '99 Twingo.
I really like the shape of this car and its ergonomics. I mean, when you look at it, you can't even imagine how much spaces it has to offer. Not to say about the fuel consumption of it, which lays at about 4,3 lt/100km (which translates to 65,7 MPG) while travelling steadily at 80km/h (or 50 mph).

In my family, there is a long tradition of Renault Cars.
My brother owns a Renault Clio 1.4 '04 and my dad used to own the legendary Renault R21 1.8 "91 (to my own opinion, only because I have beautiful memories with it).

I came across to this forum incidentally while searching on the web.

Laguna 1 16v front pipe to manifold exhaust

I have just had a replacement front pipe fitted to my 2.0 litre, 16 valve Renault Laguna RTi by a local tyre and exhaust installer. The front pipe to manifold is a spring loaded ball type joint that allows for engine movement. I noted the before and after front pipe flange to manifold joint appearance of the bolt – conical spring – nut and it has changed. The o/s appearance of bolt hanging down with nut securing conical spring is as expected. However the n/s appearance is now different. The n/s bolt is now in an upward direction. It compresses the conical spring correctly. The other end of the bolt appears to have a small number of threads engaging with the manifold (there is no nut). I do not understand why the n/s appearance has changed or if it is fit for purpose. I am concerned that the n/s bolt threads will strip such that the bolt and conical spring will fall off.
Does anyone have an illustration or photograph of the correct arrangement? Thanks.

I bough another wastage (a solid one) and now I'd like to rock it at 1.5bar stable (21-22psi)

Do you think the 3k bv39 can handle it or is it to much?

2.0 DCI M9R engine poor cold start

Our Laguna II ph2 has the 2.0dci engine and it is really struggles starting when cold, the engine turns over fine but its as though only one or two cylinders fire up and it takes a few seconds for the others to catch, this producers white/grey smoke. First off I checked the glow plugs and found 2 of them completely failed so replaced all 4. The problem remained. I have tried the primer bulb and whilst there is occasionally air in it the car still struggles to start. I have also tried cycling the ignition to repeatedly heat the glow plugs and this makes a difference some times but not often. I have read for error codes with a generic reader and there was an old stored code associated with the failed plugs but that has not returned and there is nothing else.
Any help?

Trafic 2011 hybrid turbo

Hi. I own a 2011 Trafic. It's been remapped and its pretty quick for a van, especially on the motorways. I've had a quote for a hybrid turbo, just over £500 which I think is very reasonable. However, as I'm pretty new to Renault ownership I'm constantly hearing horror stories about the gearboxes packing in. I've asked around several transmission places to see if there's anything that can be done to strengthen the pk6 but my search has turned up little info. I've been told the box is at its limit at ~150hp. I'd love to get some more out of it, I'm under no illusion that this is going to be cheap but refuse to rule it out until I've had a 'no it's impossible' or 'bloody hell, how much?' Are there different variants of the pk6? For example, does the 2.5 Trafic have an identical box, would it even fit? It seems such a shame to have an engine with potential and have the gears as the bottleneck. What about a box from a different m9r, e.g Megane? I'd guess putting a car box on a van is a no-no. If I was younger and a little reckless I'd probably just go ahead and cross my fingers but as reliability is quite important I will have to exercise some restraint! Thanks

My 2005 Scenic 1.5 Dci has a fault showing on the dash for handbrake and I cannot get the car MOT'd. The handbrake works fine, we deleted the error, but as soon as the handbrake lever on the dash is touched, the error shows up. I don't think the handle engages the handbrake. Any suggestions?

2010 Scenic Nomadic Bluetooth mode?

Hi all,

Bluetooth and audio issues galore on our 2010 Grand Scenic TomTom. Bluetooth not recognising phones, goes into Nomadic mode? Also CD not ejecting from player. Just replaced battery so that hasn't fixed the issue. The other thing is when the problems happen you cannot scroll into the Bluetooth option in the menus.

Trafic - Laguna engine swap

Hi guys,

I have a 2007 Trafic dci 115 with 116k miles on the clock. The engine is dead with several problems. I also happen to have a 2007 Laguna II Dynamique with a 150HP engine (68k miles)...

Is it possible to use the Laguna engine in the Trafic? If so what's needed to be changed/modified to get it working?

My understanding is that the injectors and the turbo are different and possibly the ECU as well due to the increased power.

One option is to use the Trafic's injector and turbo on the Laguna engine with the Trafic's ECU
or
another one is to use the Laguna engine as it is with its own ECU to and live happy with the more power.

Please guys give me some insight on this. Thanks a lot

Ok so set up this to give my injectors a clean out as after doing a leak test one was too much and another too little. I was hoping this would sort the injection fault out.
I'm trying to narrow down the list. I can hear the injectors clicking with a screw driver when the engine is running.
The purge didn't really do to much, not like what i seen on other videos on the ole'tube.

So where the return pipe returns from the pump when i turn the engine off and then back on air bubbles are present just after when the engine starts running. It is a little of a frothy burst, but more like if you open a shaken up bottled of coke, where all the bubbles rise. Now after the engine warmed up this happened less. I had the injectors out the other day and used the same copper fire washers, or could this be something else, or nothing.
My next port of call is check all connections hook it up to the can clip and make sure all the injectors are coded in. Any other ideas?

Clio 2006: Cannot properly access fuse box

I have a Clio 2006 1.2L. The fuse box cover is located left to the steering wheel. I opened the cover to check the central locking fuse as I am having problems with both key fobs suddenly stopping working (all keys on both fobs!). However, I noticed that I cannot properly access all the fuses in the fuse box. The top two rows are not accessible at all as they are hidden by the car interior. Is there any way I can remove the fuse box so that I can access all the fuses? The car manual only stated location of the fuse box, but not how to access all the fuses in it :(

Help much appreciated as I managed to pull out the central locking fuse with huge difficulty, but completely failed to refit it again. It fell down behind the fuse box and got lost. I tried with the spare fuse but again lost it ! Very frustrating.

or is it a work shop is it for hanging up the tools or a place to hang out away from her in doors after 20 years my workshop is being built in block work no more cold wooden sheds for me in the winter a full on double glazed home from home to fiddle and play im not going the full 30m floor area just 12m across the back of the garden storage in one half and work area in the other my garden looks like a bomb hit it as the first shed contents are on a pallet covered as i laid the concrete upto the 2nd shed then built the first half of the new emptied the 2nd shed into the new and remove the 2nd shed just laid the concrete base for the 2nd half have then when finished got to go through everything and keep only what i need as over 30 years i could not beleave what i have kept some parts like mini body panels and half race 1966 cam shaft will go on ebay i evan found a mini head i cut into sections so i knew how far i could open out the ports and valves cant find my david vizard book though
so with a bit of luck before i fit any fascia and render i will post some pictures so 20 years and its finally going to happen cant wait the mrs cant either she wants my tools out of the house how dare she :devil:

I had a faulty steering colum motor on my 54 plate scenic, so ive bought a second hand one from good scrap merchant, mechanic fitted it and started the car and moved it 200 yards, locked it up, when I came to pick it up the car now wont start or turn over and the fault notice on the dash is saying that the steering lock is on then off, also when the mechanic links in his diagnostic computer its not recognising it,,, can any one help me understand what might have happened and any remedies

1,5 dci scenic 07,knocking noise when idling.

Hello,having som isues with a 1,5 dci with simens vdo fuel system.
it has got a knocking/missfiring noise when idling,engine stops after maybe 30 sec.
can this be the fuel pump or solenoid?
it has got a little white smoke that smells like diesel before it stops,engine starts again afterwords.

dephaser renewal question

Hey guys, I am in the process of fitting a new dephaser pulley and I am having an issue understanding the haynes manual. It says to ensure that the dephaser is neither advanced or retarded before tensioning the timing belt. As the dephaser is locked I am unsure as to what it is. I have completed the tensioning process but have not refitted the cover until i am sure it is correct. Anyone out there tackled these and give me some pointers please. Many thanks.

Cannot Access system settings

Hi, I have just bought a 2010 Renault Megane Mk3 with built in tomtom navigation. Unfortunately the SD card was not with the car and when i asked the dealer he told me that there was no SD card.

No i am trying to access the system settings in order to switch off the Tomtom navigation and also to set the clock but cannot access these settings.

I am selecting the set button in a long press but all i am getting on the screen is NO MAPS FOUND.

Any suggestions please ?

I have a loss of power whilst driving i can the engine pull back ..it then had a warning light flash up .. called AA and said was one of tje coils .. changed it .. then work ok for 2 months .. been feeling pull back again had a full service yesterday all new filters spark plugs etc.. drove home pull back still then lost power and stopped dead ... started after a couple of mins .. no warning lights on .. called AA and no faults found and engine looks ok .. back to garage who also find nothing wrong .. but car still pulling back lose power on driving .. any ideas as what this is please

Clio 1.6 VVT Dynamique S slow throttle response

Hi all.
Not to sure if this is the right place to post as im new to this.
I have just bought a Renault Clio 1.6 VVT Dynamique S 3dr which has been playing up. It was driving really slow so I took it to the garage for tests and they replaced the cam sensor. It seems to have helped but the throttle response seems to be very slow. When I rev it, there's about a 1 second delay before the engine revs up and I don't think its as fast as it should be.

Hi all,

In relation to issues reported on the forums I'd like to purchase some contact or switch cleaner for things like relays, connectors on sensors etc.
I've seen stuff on eBay for about 3 or 4 quid and my local motor factors has WD40 switch cleaner for about £7. I notice some get rid of oxidation and others don't state that. Can anyone advise on what might be the best to buy to clean up various connectors on my Clio?

Hoping to spend about £4 or so if possible but want something that will work well enough.

Got a smokey issue.

I have a Clio 1.5dci 65bhp 2002

I've had a white smoke issue for a few months now, I have taken it to a garage 3 weeks ago and got the turbo changed. The smoke continued and then got less over the next week.
When the car is cold there is next to no smoke but when it heats up I could get a job with the red arrows :d but then when warm it's not to bad again.
The big problem is that it is using a lot of oil, in the last 4 weeks I've used around 10 litres and done maybe 1400 miles (it's been a lot) I've also noticed that it's started to us more coolant but the car is not over heating and always starts first time.

Can anyone please give me an idea what it could be please.

My Laguna 2 Dynamique 16v Wont Start

Just tried to start my Laguna and all I got was a "clicking & grinding" type of noise....
Everything was fine when I parked it up last night ie doors locked from key fob etc and all the panel lights went out when I put card in slot to start car but when I pressed Start button "nothing"

Radio works fine,Doors lock & unlock fine.I did notice that the digital clock now resets itself to 00:00 every time I insert my card,The red "STOP" light and Battery light stays on now too.

Can anyone help???

Wheel bearing broblem???

Recently had my mot ( 3 weeks ago) failed worn tyres and new pads/disc at front all sorted now but noticed a low frequency humming coming from back of car when rolling. Stationary the car sounds sweet but when rolling sounds like a Lancaster bomber. Hiked up both rear wheels and gave them a spin drivers side spins fine but passenger side sounds like there's a tiny object like a small piece of metal rattling about. Could this be a sign of a failing wheel bearing and should they have spotted it during the mot?

Megane scenic 1.4 2002 coolant problems, bubbling out of header tank

Hopefully someone can help with this, I've searched and the usual response seems to be head gasket, but although I did think it was at first, not so sure now, if anyone could give their thoughts it would be appreciated. I'll give as many details as poss.

I bought the car 2 days before Xmas as I urgently needed something just to get me over Christmas and New year, and I thought then the head gasket might be gone as the water in the expansion bottle was 'sludgy', but wasn't all that bothered as only needed it for a couple of weeks.

Its now end of August and been topping it up with water every week or so, usually about half a litre a week. However its been getting worse recently, where I'm now up to a litre or more per day, and I'm only doing short journeys, no more than 20-30 miles a day.

There are no water leaks I can see from anywhere except whats mentioned below, and I would see them due to the colour of the water.
The water in the expansion bottle isn't sludgy as first thought, it is a rusty colour though.
The system does not pressurize at all, the pipes are all soft even if its been running for 20-30 minutes, or a few miles of motorway driving.
The heaters work perfectly.
The radiator fan kicks in perfectly well.
There is no water in the oil at all, and the oil is clear, which, if it was the HG, I would have thought there would have been some evidence of water, considering how much its losing.

However, the header tank boils over, I first noticed if I was sitting in traffic for more than a few minutes I would be able to smell the water, then looking behind I would see a trail of brown water behind me. At first I put this down to a symptom of the HG, but thinking again now as there are no other signs of the head failing.
I've sat with the engine running tonight for a few minutes from cold, and within a few minutes, before the fan kicked in and remembering the pipes are still soft, water started seeping out from the header tank, through the top.

Is it possible the pressure cap can be faulty? My thinking, if its faulty then that would obviously explain why waters managing to get out through it, and why the system isn't pressurizing, as, as soon as pressure builds up its just leaking out rather than keeping it in the system, if that makes sense? Can the caps go faulty somehow? If so, can you just buy them at some motor factor store or is it a dealer part does anyone know?

Hi,

I looked all over the web including this forum to try to figure out why I can't find the sensor in my car (automatic gear). Unlike most examples I find on Youtube on how to replace/clean the sensors, I have a bunch of tubes instead of where I expected the sensor to be. I've seen 2-3 examples on this forum on where to find the sensor, but was unable to find it myself.

Attached is a potato quality photo under the hood.

I hope anyone knows what I'm talking about. This specific car model seems to have the WORST order under the hood, zero space to maneuver etc. I really hope they didn't hide the sensor out of reach and that it's just messy planning by Renault.

Number of issues (overheating, losing power) with 1998 Renault Clio II 1.2L

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum so apologies if I've posted in the wrong section. I've recently been having a number of issues with my 1998 Clio, which I feel are probably related but perhaps its coincidence, maybe you guys can help me out!

About a week ago my car began overheating and I noticed the coolant level was just below minimum so I bought some coolant and topped it up to the maximum.

The car then worked as normal up until last night when I was driving and the "battery charging circuit" warning light came on. I do fast food deliveries and didn't really understand what the warning light meant at the time and so naively kept driving.

Around an hour or so later I was still driving when suddenly the dash lights became dim and a few seconds later the car lost all power and I had to sort of free wheel to the side of the road.

When I tried to turn the ignition again, the car just clicked and the engine didn't turn over. However the interior light, hazard lights etc. began working again. I also noticed both the battery charging circuit light and the oil pressure warning light was on (despite the oil level being fine). The coolant level had also dropped to below minimum again and so this means around 4L of coolant has been used up in a week!

I was then able to jump start the car, starting on the first turn of the key. After driving for a little less than 5 minutes, the same thing happened with the car losing all power and having to free wheel over to the side of the road. Again, I jump started the car and was luckily able to get it home.

I charged the battery overnight with a power pack and this morning the car starts fine with no warning lights on, however I'm assuming this is just temporary until the battery runs out again.

To summarise, the main two problems in my eyes is that the coolant levels are dropping incredibly quick and the engine isn't charging the battery while driving (again, these problems may be related or coincidental..I'm not too sure). I'd really appreciate any help with diagnosing what's wrong with my car, thanks in advance!

09 Megane Dynamique Coupe Keyless Issue

I have recently bought a 09 coupe and the keyless lock/unlock was working 100% and now it has stopped.

Doesn't unlock when i touch the handle or auto lock when i walk away from the car with the key.

My first car was a Renault, a 6tl if I remember correctly. It was great fun to drive, with the gear stick coming out of the dashboard. Years later, almost 40 years later, I find myself with a wonderful new Grand Scenic Automatic.
I'm disabled, so the automatic part is a must. It's my third car on the Motability scheme, & also the best one. I picked it up on Wednesday, yesterday as I write this, & it seems brilliant. Due to my disability, although I do drive, my wife drives any distance, so the next few days, it will be her behind the wheel.
I have 2 kids, a girl of 8, going on 15, & a boy of 6, going on 7, bless him.
That's me. I'm 57 by the way. We had kids late, a road traffic accident in December '99 left me with a broken back. Other things than kids took precedence for a while.
Driving is something I enjoy, long may it be so.

Dash Cam in Grand Scenic III

I'm wondering if somebody here can give me advice regarding the installation of Dash Cam in my Grand Scenic.

To comply with the law I'm planning to install it within 40mm in zone B on the passenger side of the rear view mirror (as mentioned in some other posts in this forum).

I'd like to get 12V to USB converter, but I'm not sure where is the best place to connect it without doing too much (any) damage to the interior ..

There are some wires inside the rear view mirror holder where the light/rain sensor is. Does anyone know if there is a suitable lead I can steal some juice from? I'm not entirely sure how to open it and check without breaking it.

Alternatively I can take the lead down the passenger side pillar to the fuses in glove box, but again I'm not sure now painful and damaging that would be.

I'm sure people here must have done this or something similar. Anyone can give me any pointers?

Hi Guys, could do with a bit of help here.
Just got home and went to put the passenger window up and ive noticed its moving very slowly, so i waited until it was at the top then pressed for it to go down and it goes normally until it hits half way then it slows down and sounds like its starting to struggle.
Thought id ask now incase its on the verge of packing in completely (especially now its starting to rain a lot and knowing my luck itll stick open).
Does it sound like the motor is on the way out? Any ideas?

How to open up a megane ECU

I have a 2006 1.9 Renault megane that will not start, wont even turn over.

Got the car back a few months ago from the mechanic as it was something something similar. Turned out there was water in the ecu so they dried it and fixed it. Car hasn't really been used since. Went to start it the other day and its not turning over(I have charged the battery)

It shows some strange characters on the dash briefly and then they disappear. Plugged the reader into the car and getting the code P0670 which indicates Glow Plug Control Module Circuit Fault. I have removed the fuse box from the engine bay and no signs of water or corrosion. I have also removed the ECU and it is dry but I can see a water stain on the underside.

My question is, is there any way of opening up the ECU? I want to check for water damage/corrosion. I have removed 4 screws but its still held together tightly.

Hiya, my espace 3 2.2 dci died while driving today. I don't think it's the cam belt as compression sounds good. My code reader just says "link error". Would can clip read the faults or do I have a faulty socket/system. I have replaced the crankshaft sensor on advice of the recovery driver but to no avail.

2004 Scenic 1.9, bought car in auction, car had a flat battery at time of pick, gave it a jump start and drove 40miles home no problems.

Came home, parked up and left the car running for another 20mins so battery charges. When I came back out to turn off the engine, I noticed smoke coming from the engine bay. Turned off the engine and opened bonnet, smoke was from the coolant reservoir, I guess it over heated from being stationary.

Next morning I topped up the coolant and attempted to start the car, it started but then cut out. Tried to start the vehicle again but no luck, engine turns over fine (does not sound like a flat battery). I tried giving it a jump start from my other car no luck. Tried topping up fuel because its on a hill no luck. The immobilizer light does flash and stay on when I put int he key card but the light does go out when I press the start button. It does seem like the immobilizer because engine turns over fine. I left the battery unplugged over night to reset the immobilizer and tried this morning, but still no luck.

I'm not convinced the GPS unit is part of the shark fin on a PH2 initiale.

I think it's a rectangular box with a black front and a silver back. P/N 8200004252

Does anyone have an idea where it might be located within the car because I think mine's faulty.

I get the grey GPS indicator.

And I am familiar with the usual suggestions of plugging an Ebay special into the front unit but I wish to check the connections to the real GPS before I go down this route.

Renault Clio MK III Dynamique

Dropping our of gear?! Very scary!!

I've owned a 2002 1.2 Clio for a out 2 months now. Recently when on the motorway it's dropped out of 5th hear causing the revs to go through the roof and some hairy moments at 70!!


It goes back into gear okay, but then it'll happen again. It isn't a very regular occurrence but I've never had a car do this before!!


Does anyone know what it might be?

Hello everyone. New to the forum here.

I have a 1.4 rti from 97 and recently (thank to a solution posted on this forum) I replaced the engine coolant temp sensor and now my car starts first time ... every time!

BUT

For some reason now the warning light (on the temperature gauge) doesn't turn off. The gauge indicator looks like it is still working ( the needle moves up after about 3-5 min of driving and moves up or down according to the driving and if it gets to the 3/4 mark, the fan turns on ).

Before replacing the sensor the light would turn on after about 5 mins of driving. But now it's just on.

I've searched the forum but I haven't found this problem mentioned before. Anyone have solutions for this? Thanks.

Hi, I have a Renault Megane convertible in TERNA extreme blue, I need a new wing mirror as someone reversed into mine :crazy: the only one I can find online though as I need the power folding one is in TE145 Ottoman blue. so my question is does anyone know if these are a close match or would look silly on my car? ive seen them online and they look very similar but they all do on pictures.

Hi everyone I am new to this forum, I have a RX4 with gearbox problems! I have removed the box and replaced the main shaft bearing, which had over heated due to the 5th gear failure. I also replaced the 5th gear. My problem is, I can only select reverse or neutral. I have not put back in the car yet to try properly, as I don't want to take it out again. Any help would be appreciated.

1.5 DCI Injector Pumps

Hello,

I am looking for some help and or advice.

I have a 53 plate megane 1.5 Dci 80. I have a random/intermittent injector fault, which I have pinpointed to the pressure regulator on the pump (I think).

Anyway I was wondering if I could put on the Siemens VDO pump or do I have to stick with the Delphi pump? Will the pump need recoding like injectors do or is it plug 'n' play?

I recently brought a laguna 2 which was working perfectly. I arrived at work today and heard my alarm going off, I turned the alarm of and relocked the car, I went back in and it went off again so I approached the car, I noticed id left the sun roof slightly open which had only been opened when I arrived at work (10 minutes)

I got into my car at break put my card in and realised that the car wont turn on, battery is fine as seats and radio work and lights work ok. However windows will not open nor will sunroof, when I put key in I press start and nothing, so I try again nothing. I disconnected battery and ive left it 10 min, nothing. I disconnected card reader and blew it nothing, ive pushed the red switch while card inserted, nothing. Im running out of ideas can anyone help please??

My 2000 1.4 kangoo has an oil leak and I've traced it to be coming up through the pipe into the air filter housing. the pipe is broken and it spews down the engine and also in I believe causin a miss fire.
Has any one else had this?

I have a diesel 1.5 kangoo a few months ago will driving on the motorway it cut out, I pulled onto hard shoulder turned the key engine started and away it went as though nothing had happened 10miles same thing cut out but this time i switch off & switched back on again dove as if nothing had happened it has done this repeatedly traveling miles without problem or it can cut out every few yrds
I visited 4 garages and all say the same, can't find anything wrong, bring it back when it happens again. But thats why its at the garaage in the first place.

ECU configuation: Air conditioner

Hi all

I have a 1999 Renault Megane 1.6 16v cabriolet. A couple of months ago, the immobiliser was giving me problems so I had it removed by autotronics. The problem is that since then the air conditioner did not work.

I had it checked over by a friend of mine and it seems that the ECU was configured without air conditioner as per below:



Is there an easy way out how to sort this out? My friend was not able to change the configurations. Would the local Renault garage be able to do it?

Intermittent starting has returned.

Ok, so here I am again with my starting problem rearing its ugly head. I thought that I had cured it after replacing the fuel pump relay, unfortunately this is not the case. Just to give a brief recap this is what I had previously done:
1. Replaced the 'camshaft sensor'. This worked for a very short while and, as I couldn't get the connector to lock in properly, I put the old sensor back on. Car started for a short time but then went into the non starting mode.
2. Replace the 'fuel pump relay'. This seemed to cure the intermittent starting problem and I was a 'happy bunny'. That was but in March 2015 and all has been fine until last week when the intermittent starting returned...this time with vengeance.
I have re-installed the new crankshaft sensor, although I don't think that is the problem. I think it could be that the immobiliser does not always register the key and therefore not allowing the car to start. So, my question is; Is there anyway that I can check for this problem.
Sorry its been a little long winded but I thought it best that you know what I have done previously. Many thanks for any help or advice. Phil. :crazy:

cat converter/ cambelt advice please

Ive recently bought a renault megane II 2004 2.L. Petrol.

engine management & service light were on.
code read. o2 sensor issue. this has now been replaced.

the garage mentioned poss issues with cat converter. the temp sensor was saying -40 so cat(?) was doing over time. they didnt have time to check temp sensor, will check next week when in for cambelt change.
if there isnt any damage already, will the replaced o2 sensor resolve any further issues with damaging the cat converter?

the engine is quite noisy so its booked to have the cambelt replaced, as its never been done.

i can only describe the engine noise in that you'd think it was a diesel engine.

im not knowledgeable with cars so need a bit of advice whether the level of noise is because of cambelt being knackered of if the cat converter is a goner. thank you.

Replacing the heater resistor scenic grand mk2

Hi everyone. (scenic grand 2005 1.6 16v)
My heater blows on 2 speeds which is hurricane and tornado. Can be noisy as hell so i bought a new heater resistor of ebay and went to install it. Took the digital dash out and seen on the right hand side a hole just big enough for my arm. Manged to unplug the resistor but the power cable is to short and ive no idea where the plug goes to.It seems to go over the back of the controls and downinto the pasenger side. I assume in order to get to it i have to take the whole dash out, is this right? There is no room to do anything working from the back of the display

What ive thought about doing is cutting a hole in the plastic behind the display with a small saw to get at the black and red wires, cutting them and soldering the new one in.Then just hot glue the plastic back in. Any damage wont be seen with the display back in.
would this work? Need some info before i do this as i dont want to mess thing up.

Scratch black metallic paint restorer?

Does anybody have recommendations for products to remove or at least improve appearance of light scratches on black metallic paint?
I've tried regular t-cut, and t-cut black color fast and it didn't do much at all. Best I've had is them being masked with turtle wax color Magic black polish but not really removing scratches.
I just wondered if there's a really good product which can buff the scratches out easily and effectively? Preferably nothing too expensive!

EGR wrong gasket and missing bolt!

I managed to get my EGR off. The gasket between the EGR valve and the exhaust manifold is the wrong shape. Meaning one bolt (back bottom) wont go in and is missing!!!

The top two (1 standard bolt 1 torx) are tight but its not going to fully seal gasket. What issues is this going to cause?

Where can I get bolt what size?

Megane 3 Stereo upgrade

hi guys, sorry if this is in the wrong section or already on here but I have been searching loads of various posts online and I can't get a good answer for my question. I have a megane mk3 2.0 tce 180. As your all probably aware the sound quality is pants so I am wishing to improve. I would be interested in fitting an under seat 'hideaway' sub and some door speakers. I know that the door speakers should just be a direct replacement as regards to wiring. But my question is how exactly do you wire a subwoofer in and can it even be done with the standard head unit. I am not sure if it will make a huge improvement because the head unit is apparently rubbish. Can this be replace also?

am trying to remove my vacuum pump. I managed to get one off but 2 have rounded torx heads.

I have ordered some damaged torx extractor bits hopefully that will work.

But I will need replacements they say ESC 8.8 on them I presume M8 bolts. They are 25mm with round tapered end. Not sure on thread gage though.

Where can I get said bolts would a standard M8 bolt be ok say a 20mm bolt work if I cant find a tapered end bolt

Clio II rear speaker replacements?

Hi all,

I think I may have blown one of the rear speakers in my clio dCi 3 door so am on the lookout for suitable replacements that aren't too expensive. I haven't had a look as yet but am guessing they're maybe 5in or 5.25 probably dual cone or something.
I replaced the ones in the front doors ok a little while ago with Vibe Edge components (just the woofers, kept the standard tweeters).

Wondered if anyone could suggest any please? I'm looking at low budget really at the moment, say like 20 or 30 quid at the most to be honest.

2003 Renault scenic 1.4 non starter

I just got a Renault Scenic 1.4 16v as spates or repair, only paid £100 with mot til jan 2015. and was told by the lady that the timing belt had gone. I bought this for stairs. However when i lifted the bonnet the timing belt was in tact, so after towing it home I thought I'll put some jump leads on and try it as it's been stood around a few months.
All the pulleys are turning & i get a noise like the starter motor continually is just spinning, any ideas plz

so today the car was working fine ( i drove almost 10 KM ) until this happend i parked it and inject 1st (forgot that the hand breaks where fixed :D) when i came back i turned the car on and car kind of jumped to the front becuase of the gear status , so i got it out of 1st and when i turned it on the oil lamp + stop lamp were shaking like this (shown in the video) i drove for 1/4 an hour and they kept shaking and some time disappering and reappearing again .
i left the car resting for 2 hrs and then tried it , and nothing changed .

by the way i just changed my brakes pads 1 day ago .
i had this problem earlier (2-3 months ago ) i thought then it was something with the breaks i kept trying different thing and it went away but it self , this time it seems happen much much stronger and it wont go away .

what i checked
Engine Oil , Gear Box Oil , Breaks Oil , removing battery terminals and putting them back .
nothing worked, any help ??

MOT Fail

Does anyone know if a cracked ABS ring would be an MOT failure ?
The reason I ask is that about 6 mth ago my youngest sons 52 plate Clio DCI past its MOT with an advisory that one of the front ABS rings had a crack.
Today my other son has had his 51 plate Clio DCI in for MOT and his has failed. One of the failure points is a cracked ABS ring. The braking system on both cars are working fine and the ABS system is unaffected.
Just wondering if the tester is looking for work.

How to deactivate alarm on Renault Scenic (2008)

Hi guys
I need to leave my dogs in the car from time to time. Is there an easy way to deactivate the internal sensors for the alarm? The manual just has confusing pictures and the easiest way it seems to say is to press the start button 5 times - surely there is an quicker/better way?! And is it possible to permanently deactivate?

05 Plate Clio Air Vent controls paint peeling off

As the title says ... I have an 05 1.2 Clio Dynamique and the paint (? for I presume it is that) has badly peeled from around the 3 air controls on the central part of the dash.

It's making the controls look like a dalmatian - but the issue is I can no longer easily tell where each control is pointing. Is there a replacement sticker or some such that I can use to 'renew' this?

hi i have tryed to change the fluid on the aouto box of my 2004 kangoo auto got it to the correct temp removed drain plug and next part of plug
refilled with the recomended 3.5 litres of fluid but now have no drive at all and the gear shift is very hard to move have i wiped the memory from the ecu by mistake ? does it need to be remapped ? any ideas please

We recently purchased a 08 Master with 207k on the clocks to tow our race car to meetings.

When towing up hills the temperature of the engine went up by two blocks (not surprising considering the load we are pulling).

However sometimes, even when the van is empty and on cold days, the temperature would increase by two blocks.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this issue? The van has had a full service recently (inc. camblet and aux belts).
