Espace drivers seat

Hi,

I am after some advice please, :help:

I'm hoping that some one can tell me if all drivers front seats are the same size/dimensions/fitting in the Espace 2003-2012 range and do they differ in a grand scenic? :think:

The reason I ask is in my 2010 Grand scenic mk IV, the little lever that allows you to lean the seat back/forward has snapped off, not just the plastic handle but the bar that goes into the seat side has twisted under pressure? and snapped completely off :censored: .

Im hoping to get a replacement seat and swap the frame work over, using my old seat to recover the replacement. :cool:

Any advice would be great

Renault megane mk2 Battery cover installation problems

When i bought my renault megane 1.9dci it didnt have any of the engine bay plastic trip no battery cover, engine cover etc



I manage to source all the engine plastic trim i needed and for the life of me i cant figure out how to install the battery cover :confused:

What am i missing? Is there any part that the battery cover mounts on? I tried mounting it on the battery tray but its impossible it doesnt aline at all, if you can shed some light into this it would be much appreciated

Weird happenings with Clio lights

Evening all



If I put my clio into reverse, or I brake, or I indicate left or right the rear foglight warning light on the dash will light up. If I'm indicating it flashes in time with the indicator light on the dash. More annoyingly, if the lights are on then the rear tail light will dim slightly as the indicator lights up.



I did read about the rear numberplate light getting water in it, but the symptoms described in that post didn't match what is happening to me. I've checked all the bulbs and they all work (including 3rd brakelight) so I'm a bit stumped. I think it has only started today, the battery went flat on Saturday and I had to jump start the car, but all was ok on Saturday when I was driving and I've used my other car yesterday and today.



Has anyone had experience of this before?

2007 Espace Mk4 wobble

Hi,



I've been getting a front-end wobble under acceleration between 40 and 60 mph. It only happens under power, in any gear, and seems to be more of a side-to-side motion than actually coming through the steering.



I've had the wheel balance checked 3 times, and it passed its MOT without any mention of wear in the suspension. There's no vibration going through the rev range while stationary.



Is this a symptom of a worn driveshaft? Is there any way to check the play in them? Or something else?



The front antiroll bar bushes are very squeaky also, and are doing my head in, but I can't think how they might be contributing.

Can't change gear

hi

I have a problem with my renault modus 1.5 dci. I change gear from one to neutral position before i switched engine on, and from this time can't change gear at all. I can move gear shift to position wher gear 5 should be and reverse and that all. also when I switch engine on and when I release clutch then car move forward ok that mean still is in gear one but I can't do anything else! Any idea what happens please! some advice please! thank you!

Hi, can any one help. I have bout a 56 plate megane convertible & the radio & display are not working! I have removed the radio & checked for power (red & yellow wires) there is power, and when ignition turned on, the 12vts come through, but nothing on dash display (no clock, not temp, no radio/cd display, no music lol:cool:) can any one HELP please????

trafic service help

Hi can anybody help me with getting hold of an owners manual and service interval book for a an 06 Trafic please. Also I've had some very conflicting advice/reports re the engine and gearbox. I've been told that some models have a timing chain and others a cambelt - one person even told me that the chain types also have a cambelt but that doesn't seem right. How can I find out what mine has? I've also been told that the 6 speed boxes don't suffer from the tight bearings that cause the 5 speed to fail. Is this true? Any help or advice from those of you in the know would be truly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello all . I have a renault megane s reg 1.6 .when we turn on the wiper blades the dash lights come on and the wipers go very slow . And that will do that with the lights, Heater .and so on please can you help ?

Hi all

I went to look at a 2006 grand espace 2.0 dci 6 speed manual at the weekend.



everything looked good with the car apart from it said ''check injection'' on the dash screen.



the dealer said he would sort the problem out, but I am wondering if he will just erase the fault code?



from reading on this forum, the problem could be the fap filter and the car needs a good drive to clean/burn the filter out of carbon build up.



performance on the test drive was good, and it was not in limp mode etc.



the car has done around 135k miles with full renault service history every 9k miles and one owner from new.



any info/help would be good

Megane engine rattle

Hey guys I'm having a slight problem with my 2001 megane 1.6 16v.



Over the weekend I've done a fair bit of motorway driving, about 350 miles. I noticed quite early on that over 3000rpm through all the gears is a rattling noise coming from the front of the car. Driving at 70mph the noise is pretty constant. I've also recently noticed an occasion tapping noise on the first start of the day which goes away after a few seconds. I imagine that's noisy tappets. I'm going to try and take it to a garage soon but does any one know what it could be and could the noises be related?

2005 Megane 1.9 dci injector over fuel

I have got a 2005 Megane 1.9dci, its been at a garage for 6 months and they still can't find out whats wrong with it. The check injector light is on, the car is misfiring slightly at idle and more so under load (2500/3000rpm) the diagnostic computer is also showing that 3 of the 4 injectors are showing an excessive fuel rate. So far the following have been checked/replaced:



-EGR valve

-Injectors themselves have been replaced (twice!)

-ECU reboot/update

-Turbo system has had a smoke leak test

-leak off test on the injectors

-fuel pump

-cam belt checked



Can anyone shed any light on the situation?? please this is getting ridiculous now!

my 1.5dci started to tap/knock very loud its been sat outside for 3-4 weeks since it started

any way the story when i bought the van the head gasket was gone so new gasket and cambelt kit and it run as sweat as a nut around 2000miles later it started to knock very loud the sound is like loud tappets/bad hydrolic lifter

so i bought another head ready for a head swop but in the mean time i read a little about injectors and thought its worth checking they have been coded

so cleaned the injectors got the 16 digit number from each one plugged in the renault clip 3 numbers are correct but in the wrong place and one number was wrong so i recoded into the ecu the correct codes to the correct cylinder i have only done about 10 miles but the difference no more knocking noise

i will update this thread after another 1000miles or before if any problems

but it just goes to show if you have not done it with new or 2nd hand injectors get them coded to the ecu

Newbie problems :)

Hi ppl, you purchased my first renault :) very happy with how the laguna drives etc, lovely car. Just a few problems i've got, it's 05 laguna initiale 2.0 petrol. First off all the handbrake does not work, no idea were to start as it's electric haha. Also the front windows dont work but the rears do. Any help or advice would be much appriciated, many thanks

Just bought a newer 2.0dCi (175) Grande Espace, and although I nearly fried it's brains by jump starting it from my other Espace when it's battery went flat (NOTE TO SELF .. Don't do THAT again!), the nice folks at Milton Keynes Renault luckily were able to reflash the memory and fixed my error for £80 .. so that was both a relief, and a big lesson learned !



This one has head rest DVD screens (Blaupunkt) and came with two wireless headphones.



Does anyone have a clue where I might get hold of two more - preferably the same - maybe from a scrapped Espace for a reasonable amount of cash?



Car is a 2007 Dynamique, and these were factory fit I believe. There's no clue on the headphones themselves as to model or make.

Diagnostic codes 213 and 822

Hi, can any one help, my daughters clio extreme 2001 16v has had loads of probs in the few months weve had it. 4 diagnostic checks and these 2 codes have twice 213 upstream sensor signal and 822 canister perge solonid. origional problems were loss of power but that disapeared when the 10 codes were first cleared, but engine management light keeps comming back on, garage asked me to google these codes to try and save me money and see if anyone else had these and managed to correct them, Help:devil:

Correct tool for removing wiper arms

I have a 2004 1.2 16v Clio Dynamique.



I have a problem with the leak in the driver side footwell. I suspect it is to do with a blockage beneath the wipers but I can't get the wiper arms off no matter how hard I try.

I have a Megane CC 2008 and I wish to buy a Wind Deflector. Does it come with a cover for it to keep it from being damaged when folded up and stored in the boot?

Installing Electric Folding Mirrors - Anyone done it?

Hi,



I have a Megane CC 2008. It currently doesn't have electric folding mirrors.



I want to install them, however is it as simple as fitting 2 second hand mirrors that are electric folding and changing the car mirror switch? Or do they need programming in?



I have seen some where the car is locked by the keycard button and then the mirrors fold in automatically and vice versa. This makes me think they need to be programmed into the car.



Any thoughts or advice greatly appreciated.

Megane CC - Where can I get a New Key Card cheaper than Renault?

I have just bought a Megane CC.



The previous owner said it only has one key, she lost the other one. I'm not happy a second key is out there for my car somewhere.



Also the one I have got is totally cracked in half and split. the car is only 6 years old, how the hell do you loose a key and totally trash the only one remaining.



I called my local Renault Dealer and it was:-



Brand New Key from Renault £115

Programming it onto the car £82



:devil::devil:This is a total of £197 for one key!!!!:devil::devil:



However if I were to buy 2 keys then it is only £50 more for the second key.



Does anyone have any idea how or where can I get a New Key Card cheaper than Renault?

Megane II Privilege Won't Lock Properly!

Hi there,



Just bought a '55 plate Megane Privilege Saloon second hand. Had to work so my father checked it out and bought it for me. The previous owner showed him the strange way to lock the car.



According to him, you had to stop the engine, pull the key card out, press the start/stop button five times, get out quickly then lock it.



Whilst this is absolutely right and the ONLY way to exit and lock the vehicle without the alarms going off, surely this cannot be right! Pressing the button 5 times must be some sort of override and not the real procedure, as it is a nightmare getting the kids out as this way of doing things seems to time out and I have to restart the engine, stop it, remove keycard, press the button five times then leap out quickly or it WILL NOT lock!



Any help or advice would be brilliant.



(I did wonder why he was selling a low-mileage, good condition top-of-the-ranger Megane so cheap, but its bought and too late now!!!)

Clio Mk3 window regulator help needed

Hi everyone,



Im new to the forum so this topic might of been discussed before but I cant seem to find an answer!



I have a 2006 mk3 clio, when I bought it the window was falling down so today I got round to changing the window regulator.



I had no problems getting the door card off. However when it came to getting the actual regulator out I gave up! I ubolted it no problems but I just couldnt release it from the holes holding it in.



FYI one side is still clipped in...I think the old owner tried to fix it aswell and gave up hence why one side is clipped in but not the other.



Ps the replacement regulator I got has a square plug to connect to the motor whilst my old one has a round plug...can I cut the wiring off and the just rewire the old wiring to the new plug?

Clio mk2 - Thinking about getting a new radio - A few questions

Just lately i have been thinking about getting a new radio for my 02 plate Clio. It currently has the factory 'Tuner list' with the separate display in the dash but the sound quality seems a bit poor.



I have been looking at a Sony CDX-DAB700U as it has a DAB radio, aux in and USB which is exactly what I want with a new system. I am looking at Sony as my home audio stuff is Sony and they sound pretty good. Does anybody else have one of these and are they any good? The reviews on it that i have found have been mainly good.



Doing a bit of research i found that to get the stalk (and maybe the display, not sure on this one) working with the new unit I require some leads. I found that the Autoleads PC99-X12 + the Sony patch lead (Autoleads PC99-SON) should do the job but can anybody clarify? Are these the only 2 leads that I need?



From what I was reading, the dashboard needs to be removed to fit the PC99-X12 lead as it needs to plug in the back of the display. How hard is it to remove the dashboard and are there any good tutorials out there?

If the dashboard does indeed need to be removed, would it be worth changing the tweeters in the dashboard for some better ones? If so, does anybody have any suggestions and how easy are they to fit?



I hope somebody can help answer these questions as i want to make this a project for next weekend :)

1.9DCi Check injection, will not start advise please

ok so i have a 2003 megane 1.9l DCi 120, was driving as normal about a week ago when check injection appeared on the dash, the car still felt ok although it did seem like a loss of power from about 3000 rpm+, sometimes it would dissappear after a longer journey. anyway i was driving home the other day and ran out of fuel, after topping up i went to start the car and it ticked as if trying to start but just not firing, so to make sure there was enough diesel so i know there is now 10 litres in the car i waited and tried again and clicks but does not fire. i have read on here that it can often be the glow plugs. which i hope it is. i removed the plastic engine cover to look at the glow plugs moving from right to left on initial inspection 1,2,3 were free from any build up or mess but the 4th the far left one does have some thick black oil over it. now im worried about the head gasket. i dont have any of the normal head gasket symptoms smoke overheating coolant etc but there is this oil build up i am worried about. any advice is this normal should i crack on and do the plugs or start saving? if anyone with some experience could help me

The cable that came with my head unit works but won't allow me to use the stock controls on the steering wheel. I do want to use them, so do anyone know of an adaptor I can buy/make to get them working?

What a muppet....

On deciding to change the auto fluid on my kangoo 1.6 van 04 plate, I drained the oil and then removed the top plug a torx size 55 which I was told was the one to refill it, on removing it it has a long metal pin attached which is the park pin selector.

anyone know how to replace without damaging anything or removing the front sump etc on the box..

have tried lining up the selectors and have managed to get it to select park. but on starting no drive in any position.

Trafic 2003 5 speed box - Oil Levels

Found lots of info here and on the net about the 6 speed boxes but I'm really looking for some info on the 5 speed.



Yesterday I noticed a slight rattle when off the gas in 3rd and 4th gears. Not sure if it's from the box, but the fact that it only happens in those 2 gears suggests it is.



This got me wondering whether the gear box oil has ever been changed and also what the level should be? Is it as much of an issue as the 6 speed in relation to overfilling?



Any advice on the levels and / or pointers on possible sources of the rattle would be appreciated.

Weird noise when AC is on

Hi everyone!



I bought a new air conditioning compressor last spring. I had it installed to my Renault Laguna II (2006, 2.0l) last summer by professionals. It has worked (cold air is coming ok) but there is an awful noise when it is in use. We have cold winters in Finland and I thought to wait to the spring before figuring this out.



Noise is coming only when the airconditioning is on. Noise begins when motor RPM are over 3000. Noise is more frequent when RPM is higher. Noise stops when I stop the AC. Noise is extremely loud.



It seems that when it is cold outside the noise starts at 4000-5000 RPM, when car has warmed up it usually starts at 3000 RPM. It does not come up always but 70 % of times when AC is on. It is very annoying to drive 80-100 km/h with the AC on.

Do you have any idea what could be wrong? Is the compressor broken? Could it be that AC is overcharged?



I have couple weeks guarantee left with the compressor. I made a mistake becouse I ordered compressor from internet and I paid to local AC professional to install it...

Clio Models with A/C

I bought a 53 plate Clio Billaboing last last month with a 1.2 16v engine. However looking on eBay I can see that there are Billaboings available with 1.4, 1.5 diesel and models with climate control and air-con fitted.



According to the parkers website, the Billaboing only came with a 1.2 engine and didn't have A/C or CC as an optional extra.



Are these cars that have different engines had engine swaps and have the 1.2's that have A/C / CC had it fitted?



I'm guessing to fit A/C I'd need a mounting bracket, an alternator belt for a Clio 1.2 with A/C, some wires to hook up an on/off switch and some pipes for the cold air to get to the air vents? Or is it a lot more complicated than that?

laguna 2 turn signal resets dashboard

hi!



im having problems with my laguna 2 2004 1.6 16v 79kw

the problem is:



if i turn on hazzard or turn (left, right) switch my dash board goes turns it self off and reboot its self. all so deletes my current fuel consumptions

this only happens when i use turn signal or triangel.



so far:



i took out the dashboard and check the cabels around the steering weel and nothing seems to be out of order

i unplug the left right turn signal connector and the problem is still ther if i use triangel..



i plug car to the computer and ther is no error codes listed.



so if any body has any idea what should i do next please help me...

Squeaking 2001 clio authentique

I have had my clio for 2 weeks and it has been going fine with no problems. I am only the 2nd owner and it has done just under 70000 miles. Though today when I was going about 60mph it started squeaking really loud. The squeaking stops if put the accelerator down to a certain point but the second I release it the car starts squeaking. It also doesn't seem to squeak when I am going under 30mph. The steering isn't affected by this, the pedals vibrate a bit and it feels like the squeak is coming from the front right area of the car.

Any ideas what it could be, it has come really suddenly, one minute it was fine and the next it started squeaking?

tried to replace the lambada on the manifold today but couldn't even get to it let alone get a socket on it :mad:, so my question is how do I get to it and when one of these breaks down is it the one on the manifold that is likely to go or the one further back past the cat ??? please help I am getting to the point of no return with this car even though I love the thing when its running ok

Vibration through steering wheel

Hi all, got this annoying vibration through my steering wheel, got the wheels balanced and the guy told me the front wheels were buckled. Fair enough, easy fix and I wanted 17s on there anyway, so bought a set this morning, bolted em on, and the bloody vibration is still there.

I've noticed that if I accelerate hard in second its smooth as silk, no vibration whatsoever, but in third onwards its noticeable, also if I accelerate in sixth from a slowish speed it'll be really bad til I get upto higher speed.



Best thing to investigate first would be helpful, any ideas please let me have your thoughts, it makes a nice drive horrible tbh :mad:

Protect your wheels park like a prat !

Ive had alloys (bigger wheels) fitted for nearly 3 years now.

Admittedly theyre only on for 7 months of the year ,so I miss winter funtimes,sliding into kerbs etc but,I havent kerbed them yet.



The main thing about bigger wheels is you have to make the tyre height thinner so the total diameter of wheel and tyre doesnt change a whole lot,but the tyre height (distance from the ground to the wheel rim ) changes a lot.



Lets say on average a 65 profile tyre gives you about 4inches ,a 35 profile is more like 2 inches.

Most kerbs are higher than 2 inches.



Dont swing in front end first to a parking spot at a kerb without knowing you have at least a foot clearance to the kerb when you pull in..

Course you dont want to leave it like that.You can edge closer using the side mirrors and reversing..

Or you could go all the way and park like youre supposed to! :) by reversing into the space in the first place, slowly of course.



Sometimes with traffic conditions this may not be practical or you may even need to mount the kerb when parking front first:eek:.

If its the latter go full monty ,turn the wheel so that it goes up on the kerbwith the full width of the tyre contacting the kerb,not half sideways and when dismounting the kerb again after adjustments turn the wheel again(most likely full left lock ).



A lot of low profile tyres do have "rim protectors" which stick out slightly.

Altho better than rothing they arent much use unless your parking really slowly and carefully anyway/or for potholes.



For rough potholey roads drive defensively .watch out for the holes from hell.



Do keep the tyre pressures up.low profile tyres need full pressure!,you might get away with a slighty soft normal profile tyre in the above situations,low profile you wont.

my scenic 54 plate was diagnosed with a dodgy injector so i fitted a recon part, since then the car will only start if easy start is sprayed in the inlet.

runs fine once started but will not re start if turned off.

2003 Clio 1.4 starts then cuts out

Re-posting this after posting in the wrong place the first time. Sorry about that!



I'm turning to you wonderful guys for advice on yet another problem with my mums Clio.



As of yesterday it's decided it doesn't want to start properly. It starts up (for all of about 2 seconds) then shudders and cuts out. If I rev the engine for 15 to 20 seconds as soon as it starts then take my foot off the accelerator it will idle fine.



I've been Googling for about an hour and not really got anywhere. One person suggested cleaning the throttle body but I can't find much information on how to do this on a 1.4. Also, with only 36k on the clock, is it likely that the throttle body would need cleaning? I drive a Honda Civic diesel, which has required almost no attention over the last 2 years, so I'm pretty clueless on where to start with a Renault!



It's a 2003, 1.4 16v petrol, with 36k on the clock

immobiliser light stays on

Once again the clio is dead. Its a 2002/3 clio 1.2 16v D4F engine.



The issue this time is the immobiliser light comes on and stays on when you try to start. If you get in the car and try to start it the engine spins over a couple of times and stops and the immobiliser light comes on. When the light comes on it stays on solid and it will not longer turn the engine over.

Clio 1.5DCi 2001

My sons clio 1.5 Dci was a complete tuck up job when we bought it. The list of faults was endless. After a week or so, the clutch started slipping so I ordered a new 3 piece clutch kit which I fitted clutch slip sorted. About 8 months later, he started complaining that the clutch biting position was varying; sometimes biting very close to the floor and gear changing was getting hard. I fitted a new cable and he stopped moaning so I thought that was it. Come winter, he complained that the car wouldn't go into gear when cold, I told him to start the car in gear with clutch depressed, and again, he seemed OK with this. Wind on another 6 months and now the car is very hard to select any gear. I took the car for a drive, first off, I put it into first and started the engine, the car tried to jolt forward before the clutch released and changing into third could be very tricky, taking a few tries to get it in with a clunk. My first thought was gearbox mount, as the stick seemed to be jerking a lot, I replaced the top mount as that was the only original mount left I hadn't changed already. No change. You can just about change gear with double d' clutching. It doesn't want to engage gear at all from rest but once it has selected a gear at rest, the change seems to be all smooth. My suspicion is that the diaphragm spring has somehow failed, you can see the lever compressing the diaphragm normally so it's not cable or lever, I can only imagine that for some reason, the diaphragm spring isn't releasing the pressure plate.

What I don't want to do is fit another new clutch only to find that the gearbox synchro rings are knacked or something.
Am I missing something obvious here?

Trafic Alternator Problem

Hi everyone,

I have a Renault Trafic 1.9 DCI, the battery isn't getting any volts into it when idling. However it gets 14.7 volts when engine is revved. I'm unsure if it's a bad earth or bad alternator. Can anyone advise me on where the earth is for he alternator, or if it's just knackard?



The belt is fine as I have checked it.

advice needed on airbag wiring. pics inside

ok so my airbag deployed in my clio 172 ph2 on the passenger seat after hitting a kerb at 20mph, so got a new seat but im scared to plug it in incase the airbag goes off again as it looks like someone has fiddled with the wiring,although the airbag light wasn't on before it was deployed.



just want to make sure its all well before i connect everything up, this is the connector from the new (second hand) seat.....





and this i presume is for the pre-tensioner ect....







now, i can see that the connector from the seat goes to my black connector and the black cable to the pre-tensioner, but whats going on with the grey plug? it just has the two wires going into it then has snipped blue and brown wires at the other end. am i missing wires or has this been cut by the previous owner and does it look wired up correctly?



btw i have a new airbag ecu to go in and a passenger rear pre-tensioner as that fired too. obviously won't be plugging it all in until i have replaced the ecu. also once all this is done will my airbag light go off automatically or will i need a scan/reset tool?

Hi, I have just bought a 1992 Renault Trafic Holdsworth Rainbow camper van, I need to buy some touch up paint but I'm struggling to figure out the paint code from the vin plate.

I contacted my local dealer but they said their records only go up to 20yrs old and couldn't help, they tried entering my registration number but came up with nothing.

I tried using the last three digits in the oval 139 but that beige is lighter than my camper.

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

04 megane cabriolet window working backward

Recently replaced the temic and plug on the front passenger window. All was working fine until it came to drop the roof. When I pressed the all windows button in the centre console. The window in question operated in reverse. Went up instead of down and down instead of up. Did I do something wrong? How do I fix this?

Modus at 10yrs old....the summary!

Now that the first examples of the Modus are coming up for their 10th birthday this year I thought how would we sum it up. My old man has had one for the last 3yrs and it's been a money pit compared to the R19 and Scenic he ran before - both were quite elderly cars when he bought them, yet neither gave him hardly a spot of bother, in fact they were both great cars. But the Modus cost him a fortune as it was only 4 y/o.



Anyway...



GOOD POINTS:



- Nippy in 1.5DCI 86 form (don't forget that £30 road tax)

- Immensely practical (love that Triptic rear seat)

- Doddle to drive

- Generous specification



BAD POINTS



- Feels tinny

- Appalling electrics. I've had blower fans pack up, persistent bulb blows, the main ECU going and now the moon roof giving us bother.

- An absolute swine of a car to work on yourself. How can replacing a headlamp bulb entail the dismantling of the whole front section of the car???

- The usual foibles of French cars - the suspension starts to get tired at 50,000+ I've replaced a broken spring and the trackrod ends.

- Oh and that wretched EGR valve on the diesel engine.



Any general opinions here, or am I just being cynical and my dad's is merely a "Friday Car"? I am maybe spoiled because I'm a VW/Audi man personally which feel like Sherman Tanks compared to any of my dad's Ren-Ohs.....but what do others think?

Can only see 1 injector on the far right next to the battery as the car showed a code of P0200 a few weeks back but after I reset with scan tool it hasnt appeared since .

Car still runs kind of lumpy at start up and pulling away other than that it runs great :cool: with good MPG

Changing a Mk IV Espace battery - Myths?

My garage have advised me that my battery is expiring and have kindly offered to replace it for £194 :eek:



I'm pretty certain I can get it done cheaper or even do it myself, but searching the forums seems to suggest two schools of thought:



1) Just unplug it and swap it, it'll be fine.



2) Be sure to maintain a charge in the system so the electronics don't go belly up.



The last battery I changed was on a MKII Fiesta which didn't even have a clock so I wondered if anybody can give a firm answer about the best method to do it myself? The car is a 2007 2.0 16v Espace.

Why 4 coils?

Anyone got the theory on this for renault petrol engines?



Way back when we had the single ignition coil at least for 4 cyl engines.

12v-20000v transformer in essence, but engine was limited by mechanical points.

Then some may remember w

electronic ignition and plasma ignition,magnetic inductance for timing and an up to 50000v fast rise decay time transformer.

My last car had electronic ignition but regular plug leads and a centralised transformer.

Whats the idea of a seperate coil per cylinder?.seems retrograde.or are timings so precse now that its needed?.Surely even one coil for 2 cylinders would be enough?

Banging Noise on Clio 1.5dci 2002

Hello Everyone,



I have a bit of a mystery bangy clunky noise on my car. It only ever happens when its over bigish potholes or very bumpy road. I had the tie rod ends replaced as well as the drop links replaced last year. The only thing that seemed to make the noise go away was when the tracking was aligned but it soon came back.

renault espasse mk3 head unit problem

I have changed battery on my espasse and found the fuse had blow eventually changed both fuses the radio can be tuned in cd player shows disc but cannot hear any thing on speakers display keeps going too phone the code cannot be found by Renault dealers as Renault label is missing from head unit can hear a slight hiss on right speakers but nothing music wise they have used my logbook to search .no luck has anyone come across this problem .:(

Scenic 2005 crunching noise over speed bumps

Hi,

My wife's Scenic has developed a crunching noise at the front when going over speed bumps.

Weird thing is though that it only seems to happen when I go over a full length bump ie both wheels at the same time. If its one of the small ones that don't spread the full width of the road and I can try either side at a time there isn't any noise!



I have a feeling that it is the Anti roll bar bushes but could anybody back this or tell me different and the big question, if it is are they a pig to get to or is it straight forward?

Hi all.



This week I have decided to buy a 2004 megane RS sport coupe in amazing condition for it's age looks immaculate inside and out.



Fantastic car to drive it's so quick you wouldn't believe, it's a 225 that's been tuned to 255+



I also have a 2010 megane 3 coupe.



Probably an obvious question but I have had the 2010 megane for 1 year now and the power steering is light as a feather and I mean it's like you twitch the steering wheel and the car flys.



The megane sport on the out hand is very sticky or it feels heavier IMO.



Has anyone else ever driven both cars or own both and can compare? it's probably just the way it is and I'm over thinking it but just wanted to confirm.



I believe Megane 2 is electric and not sure what megane 3 is.

Hi all I'm hoping you can help I'm no electrician so I'm praying for an easy solution to my problem, I have a 1.9 dci sport touring when I engaged reverse with my lights on the rear fog warning light illuminated and the rear wiper slowly started moving. Stuck piston rings? - 1.9DCi, overnight soak / flush?

Hi Guys, I think I've narrowed my problem down to the piston rings (or bore) being stuck or worn.



I've read that some people have had success with the flushing fluid, which you leave overnight? Can anyone categorically state that they have used this stuff and it has worked? If so - what was the gear and the procedure please?

Megane airbag / clock spring problem

Ive had my airbag codes read on my 2003 Megane 1.9 dci to begin with no lights where showing thanks to blu tac over the leds

Now i have airbag/serv lights that come on for a while then off for a while + doors locking and unlocking



drivers airbag, seat position sensor and comms unit (clock spring)



my question is, is this possible i thought when the clock spring goes that it but mine seems to be intermitent if it is the clock spring.

First choice is the Megane TCe 115. That engine sounds just great!



The problem is, so many negative reviews can be found on the net. Is it really so bad?



I'm under the impression that the urban/extra urban mpg isn't really that good. Also a lot of road and wind noise.



The others I'm looking at are the i30 and the Cee'd.

megane scenic 2004 armrest

Hi

How do I remove the complete from middle armrest and surrounding as I've seen one in scrappers to put in move but can't see any bolts or anything

Megane noise like a wheel bearing at 40mph?

The wife's mk1 megane ph2 cab has developed what I would describe as a wheel bearing noise, you cannot hear it until you reach 40 mph and above.

Have tried the usual test for a bearing ( jacked up with foot on brake) but all seems good.

How does the oil filler bottle attach to the crankcase??

Hi Guys. 2005 Grand Scenic 1.9Dci. The bottom part of the oil filler bottle seems to just 'sit' in the crankcase. This can't be right. How is it meant to be please? The black plastic bit is bolted to the stainless steel part (a flange with a 1" neck) underneath and I can just lift it all out in one piece. I assume this isn't right.



Maybe the steel part is meant to be pressed in? I know this isn't the cause of my problems, but it would be nice to know that it can't just let water and crap directly into the crank!?



Am I missing a part??

So I guess I'll just get to it right away.



I own a 2004 Scenic II, and it bugs me how many things aren't in it compared to it's European counterparts. One of which is a central console/armrest. It just has this floor plate, and your left arm kinda just dangles about with nothing to set it down on! haha Well anyways, does anyone know of anywhere I can get a genuine one for my car? Is that even possible?



I have searched the threads here but could only find people asking how to install them, however, I actually need to get one first and then I'll worry about that. Plus I don't think their posts were actually for the same car as mine - hence this thread.



I can tell this website is gonna help me out A LOT in the future!

Anyway, my latest vehicle has on 2 occasions refused to start due to a discharged battery, on one occasion down to 7.5v. Jump starting got us going. As the car is new to me took it back to the supplier but they have told me there are no faults. I'm not convinced. I have put a new battery on. In 2 days the voltage has dropped 0.3v, is this drop normal on a modern car with radios, alarms, immobilisers etc?

Would love to know as I'm fed up of getting fobbed off and wish to send the car back if there is a fault.

scenic clutch problem....

hi to all....

i have a megane scenic 2, 1.9 dci, 6 speed, 2003..



please bear with me on how i describe the problem as i am not the best at describing things....

when driving the car last night i found that the car was losing power mainly in 3rd gear to 6th. having turned the radio off to see if i could hear anything i found that when i put my foot down it seems to rev loudly then accelaration kicks in, it is as if i have my clutch pressed down at the same time if that makes any sense...

its kind of like how a automatic car goes when you put you foot down (engine revs then it kicks in)..

also the clutch pedal only seems press down half of what it did before this problem...

so i was wondering if my clutch was on its way out or a sensor somewhere is causing this...

please if anyone could shed any light on this would be great thanks for your time...........:confused::confused:

Grand Scenic Mk3 Interior Light Issue

Please bare with me as I haven't used this much.



I have a grand scenic mk3 dynamique tomtom. My front interior door lights and the light in the roof are working but I have no rear interior door lights, rear roof lights or boot light working.



I wouldn't have thought the interior lights would have been on separate fuses or are they? :s



Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Starting problems

Hello folks.



Since yesterday my megane 1999 1.6 wont start. after browsing forums all over i have yet to come down to a solution.



Heres the layout.

I start the motor revs it starts but as soon as it does it cuts out. turning off every light in the dashboard and every electrical component including radio



i have ruled out the immobilizer(the light goesoff)

i have cleaned the tdc sensor but nothing happened

the connectors to the tdc seemed fine

i have unplugged the sensor itself and the car revs until i stop trying to ignite wich rules out a fault in the starter.

i have cleaned the engines ground connector but it did not help



the battery is at 13v and close to 14 when running

the key batter is working.



here is the spooky part . i can push the car and it runs fine in when pushed off to a start.

Hi does anyone know where the front Fog lamps relay is

I have fitted the lamps and wired into the loom fitted the fuse in the B11 and also replaced the column switch. On activating the column switch the indicator comes on on the dashboard . Now all i need to know is where do i fit the relay?

alryty all,



started the car this evening and i have no dipped headlights, have checked all fuses, bulbs etc,I know the stalks not to blame I am getting all the other lights and i am getting a dash notification to let me know I have chosen dipped beam, so the signal is been sent, I Believe faulty relay not energising is to blame, when I switch the side lights on I hear a little click from the switching unit, when i switch to dipped headlight no click so says to me a possible faulty relay, does anyone know where the relay for the dipped headlights are? i believe they are inside the switching unit attatched to the circuit board but does anybody know which relay it is? if i can find it then I will just break the casing on the relay and manually close the switch allowing me to test if its just the relays coil or if its possibly a power issue.

I was doing some research into intercoolers and am sure i read somewere the intercooler on the 100bhp megane DCI is bigger than the 80bhp megane DCI?

Having the 80bhp megane naturally i want the bigger badder intercooler! lol

So do i have my info right or am i wrong?

Megane - clicking before ignition??

My partners 52 Megane convertible (rhd but an import from NL) is now making a dull clicking noise when the ignition is turned to the second setting. It starts and drives ok... Or so it seems:confused:



It seems to be coming from between the near side front bulkhead and the interior - under the grill below the wiper blade. We have turned off the heater and fan etc but this makes no difference



Does anyone have any clues as to what's there and what it might be???

Lag coupe seat covers?

hello all, probably should have asked on here sooner, after looking at the cost of upgrading my interior to leather through Renault £1200, I decided to look into other options, and found various sites selling made to measure seat covers



www.seatskinz.co.uk Is one of the better sites I found, however so far not a single place I have approached has been able to offer me anything, it seems the lag coupe is just too rare?



I wondered If anyone had any advice? as to where I could get a set of covers made, maybe a French company? the coupe is a lot more common over there I hear..



would even consider a full re trim, for the right price, or if anyone knows of lag coupes being broken for parts?

I've just got an Clio Mk2, it's a temporary car just now due to a new job, but depending how it goes I may keep it.



As I said I joined her as I was looking for some answers, but also as it's great to be apart of a forum during ownership of a car, whether mine turns out to be short term or not.

2.2dci Thermoplug Housing 2002 Espace

The thermoplug housing fitted to my car is leaking slightly and I need to get it sorted. Have had a price from Renault of nearly £70 for a replacement unit with new plugs.



What I want to know is the thermoplugs really required? I mean they are only there to warm the engine up quicker. Could I not remove it and replace with a piece of pipe and disable the plug wires or will it cause a problem with the ECU?



Thoughts please also welcome.

Need urgent help - cleaned injectors now wont start

Hi so ill get right to the point, I cleaned the injectors in my 2005 megane 1.9 dci and when I put it all back together it wont start? Ive tried to bleed it with primer ball but nothing at all is happening as if its leaking air but i cant find the source. Also do I need to replace the copper washers on the injectors? I head i can heat em up and reuse? Please help my car has been in an underground car park for 3 weeks, Ive already gotten 2 tickets and a flat battery so its sitting down there with 2 unlocked doors

MK2 Laguna Cabasse System Acting Strange

My Mk2 Ph2 Lag estate is fitted with the 6CD/MP3 Cabasse auditorium head unit which has a strange issue I can't seem to solve and hope you can help please.



Since owning the car the head unit works but non of the buttons work on the front.



With the ignition of I can turn the head unit on or off with the ignition on the radio is on but I can't turn it off!!



The only function that works is the radio, I can change the stations and volume by using the remote on the steering column but not on the actual head-unit.



As I say non of the buttons work, including the 1-6 buttons or the rotary volume control so can't change from say radio to CD.



When turning on you can hear the CD system cycling through but then after a few seconds it stops.



Thinking it was a dodgy head unit I purchased a second hand one on ebay for £80, received it this morning and plugged it.



But it still doing exactly the same thing so it can't be the head unit!!!



A couple of time with the original head unit I was asked for the code which I entered and it was correct but it didn't make any difference.



With the replacement head-unit I wasn't asked for the code.



My neighbour said the head-unit is code locked but is that was the case would they both be code locked and would the radio still work and why would it still be locked after I entered the correct code on the original unit?



Any help would be much appreciated.

Laguna strange wheel noise

Have just bought myself a 2003 Renault laguna 1.8,with only 52000 miles.Looks and drives like new,except!Has a strange noise when turning at a slow speed coming from drivers side front i think.Only way i can discribe it is like a light rattle noise like a stone in a tin can or a bit of plastic hitting something turning but only when driving at slow speed.It does not sound like a heavy knocking metal to metal etc.Any advice would be helpful.

2003 Renault laguna 1.8,engine noise

Just bought my first laguna 1.8,its a 2003 with only 52000 miles on clock.Its looks and runs like new,but i have started to notice a strange noise when car is idling coming from around the oil filler cap area.Engine sounds like a low running diesel car with a slight tapping noise.Car drives fine and noise dissappears with slight revs.Would be grateful of any advice anyone could give me etc.

Scenic Caliper Cleanup

Hi all.



If this needs to move or isn't wanted please do so.



Whilst waiting for parts for the engine I'm rebuilding I decided to give the other front end mechanicals a bit of a going over.



Although the brakes worked well on the Scenic it seemed a good opportunity to clean them up and check them over.



Front left shows heavy surface corrosion.





After descaling with an air tool and a quick rub over with a wire brush, the caliper was left for 24 hours in a electrolysis tank. Really it's just a plastic dustbin filled with water and around a 1Kg of washing soda. In the bottom of the bin is a small wheel rim and around the edge 4 steel rods that are connected to the positive lead of a battery charger and the item to be treated is connected to the negative lead. In the process the positive parts (wheel rim and steel rods) are eroded so it's important not to let the crock clip touch the electrolyte (water and washing soda solution).





24 hours later the caliper looks like this. Note that the piston is fully retracted and the fluid chamber is sealed off with a bolt and locknut. The nipple is closed too.





The rust and rusty paint peels away in flakes.

After drying them out a thorough cleanup with a wire brush gives this finish.

1.9Dci Grand Scenic 2005 - excessive crankcase pressure

Hi Guys.



I've just bought this Renault Grand Scenic and on the drive home a 'Check Injection' light and the SERVICE light came on. I checked the schedule on the ECU and it tells me I've got 14,000 miles to go til I need a new one??



Anyway, that's a different story (which could possibly be related)... Read on...



Upon getting home after a 30 minute drive, I noticed a whiff of smoke come up out the vent in the engine bay which made me lift the bonnet. I tok the engine cover off and found that the 1" Crankcase breather pipe had been disconnected from the small disc type cylinder towards the back of the engine and turned to just point anywhere.



With the engine running, I could feel quite a bit of pressure coming out of this pipe, and then I took the Oil filler cap off and had the same problem there, although the header tank looked fine (not contaminated) and the inside of the filler cap had no mayo.



The car drives fine, with no smoke out the exhaust. It is a bit underpowered considering it's supposed to have 120bhp, which is leading me to believe there's something not quite right. Almost as if the turbo isn't putting in enough power, or something is retarding it in some way, or there's a dodgy reading.



Can someone possible give me a few pointers please? I've done nothing it it yet except take a look at the boost pressure solenoid/ sensor connections, but it's bl00dy tight in there - and hot - at the moment...

Clio running issues

OK here goes , search tried and nothing resembling my issue was found.



Daughters Clio 2 , 1.2 16v on an `06 plate with 75k on a D4F engine.



Around 60 seconds after starting the car (warm or cold) it starts to misbehave. If we are stopped then the idle becomes lumpy and you have to hold the revs >2.5k , if we are driving then if "feels" like a misfire . Once it has had its wee tantrum for around 30 seconds it runs perfect providing it is not switched off, if it is and is allowed to cool slightly then 60 seconds after the restart it goes through the same procedure. There are no faults displayed on the dash.



I am going through the fault finding process of replacing parts (cheapest first) as that is what a garage would do anyway.



So has anyone experienced the same issue and if so what was the outcome ?



I have replaced the inlet temp sensor , the coolant temp sensor looks new , adjusted the valve clearances , cleaned the MAP sensor , cleaned the TB which is a sealed unit with very limited access.



Questions - If a MAP sensor if faulty would it just "fail" and throw a fault message on the dash or can it still partially work ?



MAP sensors - new Ebay £13 , ECP £50 + ,has anyone had experience of the ebay ones ?



Lambda sensor - could it have a "dead" part in its sensing range and operated fine cold + hot but has a "blip" during the warming process ?



Throttle body - as there is no throttle cable and it is drive by wire via a servo motor does a used replacement need to be "coded" to the car ?



It doesn't particularly bother me whilst driving but as my daughter has just passed her test she starts to panic if it does it , which being an inexperienced driver is the last thing she needs



Any factual input greatly received.

2009 (MK3) Megane Electrics

Morning All,

New to this...I just picked up a Megane Diesel Coupe on Saturday and since yesterday have had nothing but a headache.

It was raining overnight - So I don't know if this contributed to anything....

Keyless entry didn't work when I got to my wet car, I had to use the key to unlock the car.

Radio froze on one station - was trying to place a call (via Bluetooth), and nothing was happening, tried to change channel and nothing again. So I switched it off - It hasn't come on since. Stayed off (Well, the console on the top just say RENAULT and shows time and temperature).

When it stopped raining (mid afternoon)...I approached the car and keyless entry worked ok...BUT...again in the evening, it didn't...and a message "low battery" came on the dash. Started the car, took it for a drive...and the message disappeared. Keyless Entry and auto lock worked ok. At this point, I thought the radio (still not coming on) was draining the battery - so I took the fuse out.

Then this morning...Keyless entry not working. After a drive to work (40 mins) it started to work ok...I walked away from the car, it bleeped and locked. I double checked it by opening the door, and it opened.

Can someone please advise what it could be?



I don't know much about French cars - been a German owner for 5 years...but to me it may be an alternator, battery or power distributor (if there is such thing)...If it helps - the car came from a LARGE warehouse, where it possibly sat for a while and was switched on and off every now and then.



I don't want to take it to the garage unless I know top 3 things it could be - just to paint a picture, I'm a female...and because I look young, most mechanics give me a hefty bill.

Clio 02 plate electrics

Hi, had a clio for about 5 months. The head gasket went, then the timing belt, then the battery then had a massive leak through passenger door and then sunroof. Beginning to hate this car. It has about 50k on the clock. I have had all these fixed and now found that I have some sort of electrical fault.



Symptoms:



*break light flashes on dashboard when I put the indicator on.

*windows stop and start when trying to put them up and make loud clicking noise under dashboard.

*windscreen wipers also make this clicking noise when on.

*button to heat rear windscreen light doesn't come on anymore (on the actual button) heating still works fine without.



Can anyone see what could be causing all these things??

Renualt Master 2.5DCI 2007 belts

Hi, Does anyone have a diagram of the belts which go on the alternator and power steering pump etc etc.



I have a master 2007 which was a tyre van and has a PTO fitted and I'm wanting to remove it and need a diagram of what it was like when it left the factory.



Also any help with the size belt would be greatly appreciated.

Weird clutch-problem on 03 Espace 1.9dci

My 2003 Espace 1.9dci with 6 speed gearbox har a broblem with the clutch. Even when pedal is fully pressed it doesn't disengage properly, it's very hard to push into gear. I've checked the hydraulics for leaks and bled it, but it seams completely fine.

Also, if I put the car into gear before starting it, the clutch engages comletely normal and at the right time, at about half release of the pedal.

So I suppose it must be a problem inside the clutch-housing, either the slave cylinder or the release-bearing? The dual-mass flywheel would't give theese symptoms I think??

So to question #2, How much work is it to remove the 6sp gearbox? Do you have to move the engine?

Clio display screen help

Hi got my first car, clio 2005 1.2

On the display screen it only showing the clock

I have got a working CD player from another clio and put it into mine but nothing is still showing on display screen apart from the clock and the CD player beeps

Espace 2.2 auto box won't change past 3rd when cold

Hey guys,



Need some help my 07 plate espace won't change gear in the auto mode when cold but if I put it into semi auto and drive it up to 5th and put it back into auto it's fine till you turn the engine off then you have to do the semi auto up the gears again then into auto after and it's fine till you switch off. It's ok on long drives but on short trips it's a pain coz if I forget it will rev up to full revs for a few secs then change gear but the ESP FLASHES up on the dash with a fault then it's gone.



I had a auto box espace brfore and it was nothing but problems so don't want another one as I am paying for it thus time.



Ps was towing a large trailer few days before this all happend and with this sealed for life I can't change the oil to see if that fixes it

Finding a leak in a clio

Hi again... i think i should buy a new car lol



anyhow, a few days ago, i got into my car, picked up the stereo remote off the floor.. soaked :(



ripped out carpet and foam and will replace those as they are ruined. (easy one)



anyhow, just trying to locate this leak! and... today it rained and i found a puddle in the car again, but this time i didn't have a carpet to hide the location.



so on the drivers side door it looks like its coming from the area circled, but thats all i could tell, does anyone know of any drainage pipes that run down here? Its a clio alize 1.4 auto



The cabling is dry and from what i can feel, hasnt run down the cables from above

Which Aux Belt Tensioner do i Have?

According to my Haynes manual there are 3 types of tension pulley. One is self adjusting and the others are not. Can anyone advise me on which I have? The belt sequels under load ie heater and lights on but noise stops when lights and heater turned off.



I have a 2003 1.4 Megane II. I am hoping I dont have the self adjusting pulley as I have been quoted in the region of £40 for the part. I am just hoping I can tighten it up without the cost.
