Dash says boot is open but it's not???!!!!!!

On the dashboard display in our renault grand scenic 2005, it says our boot is not shut, but it is. When we try to lock the car it won't lock the other doors but we can't unlock the boot to try and shut it properly either. None of the hazard or sides lights flash when we try to lock or unlock the car. Don't think it's the key card as it's working to start the car and it makes all the locking sounds when pressed. In the hand book it explains that if the boot is not shut properly then this happens with the lights not flashing when locked and the other doors not locking but it doesn't explain how to fix the problem. I am assuming that if we can get the boot open then that would fix the problem but we can't open the boot. Any thoughts or suggestions would be great thanks.
