We have a 2003 Renault Megane which over the past 6 months has had increasing difficulties with starting. We're getting a new Captur at the beginning of November (after months of delays!) so we've been trying to limp through with it rather than pay for expensive repairs but it's getting ridiculous (and extremely embarrassing!).
Have to admit we don't have much of a clue about things although we have done some basic repairs ourselves, can anyone offer any advice on what the problem could be and if there are any simple (cheap) things we can do that might rectify it?
It's had a new battery and spark plugs within the last year. The only thing that seems to make a difference to how well it starts is if the car is level or parked facing uphill - if it's facing downhill it seems to have more trouble. Occasionally it starts first time but more often than not it now takes 2,3,4,5 attempts at getting the engine to start.
I was wondering about the fuel filter and if I can do that myself? Can get one for £4 so figure it could be worth a go!
