2007 Clio III 1.4 16V Dynamique S hesitating/holding back/misfiring problem

I've had this problem for well over a year now. 2007 1.4 petrol 16v with 60k on clock.

Short version, it usually seems to be when the car is cold (first 10 mins), the car "holds back" at cruising speed. The problem disappears as soon as full throttle is applied and comes back when you return to cruising speed. Happens in all gears and also with or without load on the engine. Occasionally there are pops/clonks heard from the engine when this is happening.

After 10 mins of driving the problem usually disappears entirely. Occasionally it will come back for 5 mins during driving (noticed on motorways) and then disappears again.

Occasionally the engine warning light will flash whilst the problem is there, but as soon as the light comes on, the problem seems to stop immediately (although the light continues to flash).

It's been to a Renault main dealer, a highly recommended local garage that specialises in diagnostics (he recons he's got better kit than the main dealers) and a local independent Renault, none of which have been able to find/fix the problem.

All report that their equipment return a very none specific misfire fault.

Parts replaced up to now include:
Spark plugs - multiple times
Ignition coils - multiple times (everyone automatically says "it'll be the coils" which drives me up the wall!)
MAP sensor - this seemed to fix the problem for a few months but I'm told this may be a different problem
The timing belt was replaced a while ago and has since been "checked" to see if this is the problem, I've been assured it's not.
Throttle body - by me a few days ago with a cheap used one off ebay, made no difference.

It had a new fuel lift pump about 2 years ago, so I don't suspect it's that at this point, also the car runs perfectly once the initial 10 minutes passes.

I've spent a lot of money now trying to sort this and it's starting to get very annoying now.

My next thoughts are fuel injectors or lambda sensor.

I've bought a cheap OBD reader that connects to my iPad which I have yet to experiment with.

I've trawled multiple forums about this over the past 18 months but can't seem to find a conclusion to the problem. I've seen similar issues but no posted solutions.

Any help, suggestions, experiences much appreciated before I smash the car to pieces with a sledge hammer.
